  2. 'Our intent was good'published at 22:59 British Summer Time 6 October

    FT: New Zealand 31-49 England

England coach John Mitchell: "Our intent was really good. We are a team that has evolved and we are coming together cohesively, we can play both sides of the ruck.

"It was pretty hot, we look forward to scoring more. We knew the pick and go was going to come so it was a good workout for next week."

Player of the match, England wing Jess Breach: "To score three tries against this team is credit to the team for putting me in those positions.

"We needed to front up physically, that's what we'll be working on for next week. It will be fun against Canada, they are really fast. Let's see what it brings, hopefully there will be a big crowd."

  4. 'Full credit to England'published at 22:55 British Summer Time 6 October

    FT: New Zealand 31-49 England

New Zealand captain Ruahei Demant: "Full credit to England, they consistently executed and finished their opportunities. We were not clinical enough today, we were constantly on the back foot and you can't do that against England.

"It's the simple things for us. It's more skillset than mindset and we can work on that. I hope we can put on an 80-minute performance we are capable of and can be proud of."

  5. 'We want to grow'published at 22:54 British Summer Time 6 October

    FT: New Zealand 31-49 England

England captain Marlie Packer: "It was really good, we put 49 points on a good New Zealand team. Big shout out to Jess Breach but also it's the work that the forwards put in. We want to grow in this tournament and attack it and that's what we're doing.

"We haven't concentrated on Canada yet, we will recover hard and build over the week and hopefully put on the same performance next week."

    Maama Vaipulu (con King)

They keep digging away. NZ pepper the England line with a succession of attempts and after a brilliant tackle from Zoe Aldcroft, Maama Vaipulu is able to finish it off.

Hanna King slams the kick over.

It's certainly a sparse crowd, yep. A long way from the 40k who watched these two play last month.

Two issues for me. 1 - why drop Zoe Harrison and 2 - a game of this magnitude should have a much bigger crowd. It's all good taking rugby away to other nations but the girls deserve so much better

Zoe Harrison took the last conversion attempt herself and puts it just wide of the near post. Almost the 50 up!

    Zoe Harrison

Wave upon wave! England do go to their catch and drive game from the lineout now, two or three players go close with Ellie Kildunne held up on the line itself. The ball is released out right though and replacement Zoe Harrison is there to touch down.

England have switched back on, winning the ball back well twice in quick succession. Victory is assured now.

That's class from Emily Scarratt, kicking ahead and Helena Rowland would score if she could scoop it up by the ball spins to a New Zealand hand.

Emily Scarratt took kicking duties for that latest conversion but couldn't find the extras.

If there was anything to work on the Red Roses have only landed two conversions from a possible eight.

    Jess Breach HAT-TRICK

Yes they can! It has been all New Zealand for the last 10 minutes or so but after a good set of pressure Holly Aitchison pops a pass to Jess Breach on the left, Ruby Tui's tackle is weak and Breach burns her off into the corner fo her third of the day.

  17. Postpublished at 69 mins

    New Zealand 24-39 England

NZ have had 54% of possession in this game but it feels like more. England have been so, so clinical when they have been in the 22 though.

Can they get one more chance? Into the last 10 minutes, just about.

A bit of a break to mop up someone's blood and we go again. The next score feels huge - NZ have put the last 12 on the board.
