Wales went back to basics to help turn that game around.

They chased hard at the kicks, looked to their scrum where Australian-born Archie Griffin impressed, and got some points on the board.

It looked like the writing was on the wall and then it just switched, Wales turned the screw.

There was a dropped ball from a restart, Aaron Wainwright scored a good try under pressure and Wales looked like a different team.

It's like someone just lit the confidence underneath them and all of a sudden they're attacking better, their defence has come on and they are not allowing Australia over the gain line.

And it's an easier game to play, once you contain a team better.

    More of the same.

After the first 20 minutes, Wales will certainly take that half-time score.

    What a topsy-turvy 40 minutes.

It looked like Australia were cruising to a victory that would consign Wales to a record loss - but back came Warren Gatland's side.

What a performance from Scarlets wing Tom Rogers, given his chance to start today after an injury to Mason Grady.

In attack and defence he has been exceptional and helped drag Wales back into this game.

Wales struggled in the second half against Fiji last week and must not repeat that today.

It's all on for both sides in the second half.

We've already had the new 20-minute red card law given an outing during this autumn series, and there are a few more in the pipeline...

Four new laws aimed at making rugby union faster and more entertaining will be tested around the world from the start of next year.

Kickers will only be allowed to take 60 seconds over a conversion, in line with the one-minute 'shot clock' that already exists for penalties.

Elsewhere, crooked line-out throws will not be penalised if the opposition does not contest the ball and, like scrums, match officials will form up the set-piece within 30 seconds.

Scrum-halves will also be given more protection around scrums, rucks and mauls to ensure a supply of cleaner, quicker ball and faster phases of play.

The laws have already been tested in a series of World Rugby events, including the summer's U20 World Championship and the Pacific Nations Cup.

A decision on keeping those 20-minute red cards - where an offending player can be replaced with another off the bench after 20 minutes - has been delayed until after the autumn.

It was so important that Wales didn't concede just before half-time.

That last 20 minutes of the half Wales were the better team, and if they conceded at the end it would've been a lot harder to get back up for the second half.

Well, that half ended far more competitively than it had looked at the start.

Australia stormed ahead with three tries in the space of nine minutes and it was looking bleak for Wales.

You could almost hear a pin drop inside the Principality Stadium.

But 13 points in the space of seven minutes for the hosts has made this a contest again.

I have to give credit to Tom Rogers, he's been great in this opening half. Everything he's doing is working.

    Wales do survive!

Cam Winnett floors Andrew Kellaway and then James Botham and Ben Thomas are fastest to the breakdown to win a penalty.

    And that's the half.

Australia kick a penalty into Wales' half and will set up camp for the final few minutes of the half.

Wales need to hold out here.

If you slow everything down it is going to look brutal.

That's the first time I've seen a ref change his decision!

The Scarlets wing is having a cracking first half on his return.

It's all Wales can do, try and grind themselves back into the game.

In the last five minutes, Wales have certainly done that.

Wales win a scrum penalty and now they're on the front foot again.

Angus Bell is then penalised for a no-arms tackle on Will Rowlands and Anscombe slots over the points.

OK, we have a game back on.

It's been all green and gold up until the last five minutes, but there's little battles being won by Wales now and they need to continue it.

    It's exactly what Wales needed.

We said after the last Australian try they needed to keep the ball and get some possession in the Australian 22.

Blair Murray out on the wing made a little dent and then it was all about patience.

It was Elinor and Wales finally showed what they can do with some possession - and quick ball.

For a moment it looked as though Wainwright had overrun it... or Bevan had held a fraction too long but the forward spins over for the score.

The atmosphere has completely changed here.
