That's all for the first half. Saints lead after their fast start but the weather has made it difficult to play.

Castres try to attack from the halfway line but are driven back by a committed Saints defence.

After the blistering start, it's been a bit of a stop-start game which has lacked fluency.

James Ramm concedes a scrum after his kick goes too long, but a few minutes later, Castres kick the ball away and the Saints full-back calls the mark.

A retreating Fin Smith nearly gets caught out as he is pushed off the ball deep inside his own 22.

Josaia Raisuqe prods the loose ball forward but loses control of it as he closes in on the line.

Smith covers well to pick it back up and Saints can clear.

Castres surprisingly point to the posts from another penalty but Louis Le Brun's contact on the ball is poor and it drifts wide.

The wind is making it difficult for free-flowing rugby so Alex Mitchell decides to pump the ball long after retaining possession from the scrum.

It works out well for the hosts as Castres pick it up and kick to touch without making many metres.

Saints can attack 20m further up the field.

It's a blistering start by Saints and they are over again through teenager Henry Pollock, but the try is chalked off after the television replay.

The ball is kicked through by the hosts and Pollock dives to claim it before his momentum carries him over the line, but he is adjudged to have lost control and it doesn't stand.

That would have been some moment for the teenager.

Castres are on the board with a simple penalty for Louis Le Brun from close range.

Some early enthusiasm from Henry Pollock, who is penalised for being offside.

Castres point to the posts instead of kicking for touch.

Alex Mitchell tries to prod the ball through but Castres scoop it up and turn the green shirts with a thumping boot of their own.

Luckily for the Saints number nine, the ball goes long and we will come back for the scrum from where it was kicked.

Fin Smith gets us up and running in blustery conditions at Franklin's Gardens.

The big boost for Saints is the return of scrum-half Alex Mitchell, who says he has renewed "fire in the belly" and wants to lead club and country to new heights after recovering from a neck injury.

Mitchell made his first appearance of the season from the bench in Saturday's Premiership defeat by Gloucester after missing the start of their title defence and England's entire autumn campaign.
