Just to give you a flavour of the pre-match pitchside entertainment so far in Brighton.

We have had a microphone-wielding presenter roaming into the stands to conduct a karaoke version of Abba's Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, various gargoyle face filters applied to innocent fans by the stadium big screen and, I think, a fan approaching the England replacement bench to offer some homemade baked goods. TMS-style.

After an inspection from a security guard, the cake box was taken down the tunnel.

Australia head coach, and former England captain, Joanne Yapp has described facing her home nation as "really tough".

Yapp, originally from Clee Hill in Shropshire, has been the Wallaroos boss since 2023.

Asked about facing her home country, Yapp said: "The draw is really tough, but it's a challenge that we're all looking forward to."

Discussing her team's preparation ahead of the crunch fixture, Yapp said: "As a team we very much focus on ourselves.

"We've reviewed our performance against the USA, and we were proud of ourselves, we did some good stuff, but there are also areas for us to work on.

"So this week has been all about us and stepping up and improving in the areas we need to."

    Any split loyalties for her?

"No, I was brought up right!," she says.

Although she admits that it is women's sport where she wavers most and gets closest to supporting England. Hannah Botterman's no-nonsense vibes are the big draw which would convince to back the Red Roses.

As an England fan the most important thing is the win then a ruthless performance which may dump Australia out of the World Cup. 75 points clear is a challenging target for England but they are hitting their straps in time for the quarter finals.

“We are polar opposites, Meg brings so much energy and I bring calm,” Heard told BBC Sport.

“Less so on the field but definitely off it. Meg is a bright spark around the place and always wants to have fun with the girls, making jokes. I just like to laugh along.

“We are different characters but it works well on the field.

“Meg is more of a leader than I am, she is a leader in the defence.

“If I’ve got something important to say then I’ll say it but generally I go with the flow.”
