Wales' build was so secure, there was no way Scotland we're getting to that.

That type of maul is so difficult to stop in that position.

Wales put the power on after claiming the lineout and Alex Callender is at the bottom to get the score.

    Scotland 5-0 Wales

Scotland don't challenge at the lineout and defend the drive well.

Wales try to put the pressure on by going through the phases but Lana Skeldon responds by locking onto the ball and winning a penalty and the chance to clear.

Great work at the breakdown by Gwenllian Pyrs to get over the ball and Wales kick to the 22 rather than having a shot at goal.

That was brilliant work from Helen Nelson to create that opening for Fran McGhie to score.

Less positive for Scotland was the sight of Emma Wassell going off after barely a minute with what looked like a possible broken nose.

After all she’s been through, let’s hope it’s nothing too serious.

That's the unstructured play Scotland were looking for, and what a start for Fran McGhie on her World Cup debut.

You just feel like Wales switched off a bit. There was no one in defence.

You've got to keep going you've got to play the risk.

What a start for Scotland! Try after 55 seconds.

The ball is worked to the left wing and it's a wonderful finish by Francesca McGhie. Two missed tackles by Wales will anger their coaching staff.

    The conversion is missed.

There has been so much confidence in and around the Wales camp this week, it seems everything has come together right in time for this make or break match.

While Wales haven't beaten Scotland in their last three outings, they might be considered slight favourites given the turmoil in the Scottish camp this summer.

But at the same time the player contract troubles could galvanise the Scots.

You'd have to be brave to call this one, my bet is that it will go right down to the wire (again).

I've seen a massive improvement in the time leading up to this World Cup.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with them in Australia and see how Sean Lynn is trying to change the mindset of the camp. Bring a real toughness to it.

They were brilliant in the first game and got a win in the first game in Brisbane.

There's a terrific atmosphere and real sense of occasion in and around the Salford Community Stadium.

Both teams were greeted warmly by their respective fans when they stepped off the team bus, and the Scots and Welsh are out in force.

Speaking to a few of the Scotland fans, there is a mixture of confidence and nervousness on whether their team will get the job done here today.

Where they were all in agreement was that this will be a very close match, as Scotland v Wales meetings tend to be.

It's a special day for Wales wing Lisa Neumann who will lead out her country for her 50th cap.

Her family and friends have made the long trip from west Wales to show their support.

Sister Jana Neumann said: "I'm really looking forward to it, I'm immensely proud, she's worked so hard over the last seven years and to get to this moment is amazing.

"Everyone back at home at Haverfordwest Rugby Club are really proud as well, we all can't wait to see her go."

Well we just mentioned that nail-biter three years ago.

Today feels like it's pretty much a knockout clash given Canada's strength and Scotland are desperate to experience the quarter-finals after disappointment in 2022.

Defeat to Wales proved costly in New Zealand and that adds to motivation, says lock Emma Wassell.

"If I'm being honest, since that last World Cup, I have only ever really thought of this one," she said.

"There is regret there from the last World Cup and that stings. To carry it with you for three years, you realise you now have another opportunity and it might be your last.

"So it's so easy to say we want to go out there and give our best performance, which we absolutely do, but it's about winning.

"It's about making every moment count. In a World Cup, it's about converting. It's about winning. I don't care how we win, I just want to win."

This fixture is a repeat of the 2022 World Cup clash in Whangarei in New Zealand.

There were Welsh celebrations on that occasion when Keira Bevan held her nerve at the death to kick a penalty to make it 18-15.

Wales went on to make the quarter-finals where they suffered a heavy defeat to New Zealand, who would lift the trophy, while Scotland had an earlier flight home than they hoped to catch.

The tournament format is different this year but this fixture in the north-west of England is just as important.

  20. 'Lot of noise around Scotland'published at 14:35 British Summer Time

    Scotland v Wales (14:45 BST)

    Lisa Martin
Former Scotland captain on BBC Radio Wales

There's a lot of outside noise around Scotland that we don't want to be having going into the first game of the World Cup.

They've said they're going to just focus on the rugby, but it's always going to be in the back of the players' mind.
