  1. Goodbye from Thomond Parkpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 1 June

    FT: Munster 29-24 Ulster

That's all from us at Thomond Park this evening. Ulster gave as good as they got but, ultimately came up short. However, there is plenty to take into next week's playoff clash with Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.

You can read the report here and we will see you in Dublin next weekend.

  2. Murphy: "Frustrated but lots of positives"published at 19:37 British Summer Time 1 June

    FT: Munster 29-24 Ulster

Ulster head coach Richie Murphy was disappointed not to come away from Thomond Park with more but took plenty of positives away from the game.

"We put ourselves in a really good place at half-time but Munster came out well in the second half and ultimately deserved the victory."

"We are looking forward to next week. There are no easy games in the playoffs and we are looking forward to going to the Aviva Stadium to take on Leinster."

Ulster have already beaten Leinster home and away this season so Murphy knows his side have a chance.

"We are becoming really hard to beat and know that we have a real chance in a one-off game. We can take plenty from tonight but ultimately frustrated not to win the game.

We are really looking forward to getting to Dublin next week to give it a crack."

    Munster 29-24 Ulster

Ulster did indeed go for it at the end but a midfield knock-on ends the game. A super effort from Richie Murphy's men but they can't do the double over the defending champions.

The losing bonus point is enough to overtake Benneton into sixth to set up a playoff tie in Dublin with Leinster next weekend. That will be a huge clash and this performance combined with their league double over the boys in blue will give them a lot of confidence.

Munster, meanwhile, finish the regular season with nine wins in a row and it looks as though it will be the Ospreys in Limerick next week as they top the table.

  4. Penalty Munster 29-24 Ulsterpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 1 June

    Jack Crowley (78 mins)

Crowley nails a three-pointer from 55 yards meaning Ulster need a try to at least level the game. Will they stick with their losing bonus point or go all out and risk it all. Without the point, it will see them go to South Africa to take on The Bulls.

    Munster 26-24 Ulster

That try for Munster gives them a bonus point and puts them back to the top of the table as things stand.

The Ospreys have just scored a bonus point try in Cardiff which means they have overtaken the Lions for the final playoff spot, meaning that if both games finish like this, the Welsh region will be coming here to Limerick in the playoffs next weekend.

It looks as though Ulster will be in Dublin to take on Leinster with the losing bonus point enough to take them into sixth above Benneton.

Five to go so that could all change yet...

  6. try

Try Munster 26-24 Ulsterpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 1 June

    Eoghan Clarke (70 mins)

It absolutely pays off as, not only does Clarke nail the throw but he is at the back of a powerful maul that Ulster can do nothing to stop.

Crowley's effort from the left touchline strikes the post and Ulster are still in this. They need a fast response again.

  7. Postpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 1 June

    Munster 21-24 Ulster

Nick Timoney strays offside in a very kickable position but Jack Crowley chooses to go to the corner instead of the game-levelling kick for the posts.

We shall see if that decision pays off...

  8. Postpublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 1 June

    Munster 21-24 Ulster

Niall Scannell has been replaced by Eoghan Clarke but Munster's lineout issues persist as they gift Ulster ball ten metres from their own line.

What a second half we have had! Fifteen minutes to go and this game is completely up in the air.

  9. converted try

Converted try Munster 21-24 Ulsterpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 1 June

    Shane Daly (58 mins)

This breathless second half continues as Munster outnumber Ulster out wide again. This time a lovely pass from Craig Casey to Simon Zebo helps tee up Daly in the corner and another perfect two-pointer from Crowley brings us back to three yet again.

    Matty Rea (55 mins)

I can barely keep up with this! It is like a basketball game as Ulster go straight up the other end and score. Rea finishes well from close range but it was made by Cormac Izuchukwu.

The big back row powered through an attempted tackle by John Hodnett and made all of 50 metres before Rea put the final touch on it. John Cooney with an excellent conversion to re-establish the ten point lead.

    Calvin Nash (52 mins)

Those subs pay dividends immediately as a refreshed Munster cut Ulster open with some wonderful offloads and quick ball. It is eventually worked wide to Calvin Nash on the overlap and he dots down in the corner.

Jack Crowley nails the touchline conversion to reduce the gap to three. We knew this siege would come and Ulster need to make sure it doesn't swallow them up.

  12. Replacementpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 1 June

    Munster 7-17 Ulster

Ten minutes into the second half as Graham Rowntree looks to his bench. The cavalry coming on include Oli Jager, Tom Ahern, Gavin Coombes and John Hodnett as they replace Stephen Archer, RG Snyman, Peter O'Mahony and Alex Kendellen.

    Munster 7-17 Ulster

John Cooney has a chance with the tee after Jack Crowley infringed at the ruck and he almost nails it in the breeze but it comes of the post and away.

    Munster 7-17 Ulster

Crowley's excellent kick into the corner is wasted by another basic error as Niall Scannell's throw is crooked. Ulster let of the hook there.

  16. Postpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 1 June

    Munster 7-17 Ulster

As anticipated, Munster have come out of the blocks quickly. Shane Daly has caused trouble, first catching Joey Carbery's high kick ahead of Mike Lowry and then breaking down the left before being stopped by a crunching hit from Stewart Moore.

Jack Crowley kicks a penalty into the corner as Harry Sheridan is caught on the wrong side of a ruck.

Ulster whenever they get ball it's quick and fast.

Crowley and Casey have had slow ball.

    That's the difference going forward.

The big thing for me is how early does Rowntree go to his bench?

Munster would have expected to be the dominant side but Ulster's set-piece has been better and they've been superior at the breakdown.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 1 June

    Munster 7-17 Ulster

An excellent first half from Ulster has the Thomond Park crowd rather quiet at the break. After the disruption of the pre-match changes and the early injuries to both second rows, Ulster fell behind early and you got the feeling it was going to be a long evening but Richie Murphy's men have roared back and deservedly lead at the break.
