As galling as today is if you're an England fan, take some crumbs of comfort from the fact that England have another chance for a crack at the All Blacks in the not too distant future.
These two sides will meet at Twickenham on 2 November - just 112 days! - and you have to hope that England can build on this.
This season started with a World Cup, so the players will deserve a bit of a break - but there's no break in the rugby today! Australia take on Wales at 10:45 BST, you can read about it and listen to it on the BBC Sport website.
There will also be a new episode of Rugby Union Daily, reacting to England's loss, on BBC Sounds later today.

England captain Jamie George, speaking on the field during the on-pitch presentation:
"I spoke earlier in the week to the boys about the journey this team has been on. It's been a long season for us going back to the start of the World Cup. I think we're a significantly better team from where we started and there are hugely exciting times ahead for this England team.
"We'll welcome New Zealand back to Twickenham in November and we're looking forward to that. I don't think there is a ceiling with this team, you look at the age demographic and we've got hugely talented guys who are desperate to learn. It's a pleasure to be a part of."

Des: Couple of times at around the 60-minute mark, England had good possession and were making decent territory. On each occasion they kicked the ball away. Start getting those decisions right and they'll be an even better team. Huge improvement from last year. Massive credit to all involved.
Gary: Credit to Steve Borthwick, he's finally embraced the exciting attacking young players at his disposal and is playing a style of rugby to match, no more Ford or Farrell constantly booting the ball into touch. Gareth Southgate take note.

When you travel to the southern hemisphere and New Zealand in particular, the thing you want to leave with is the respect of the players and the rugby public.

England's Maro Itoje speaking to Sky Sports: "In the second half we were not as accurate as we wanted to be, we gave away a few too many penalties and gave them easy points and territory.
"When you are playing a good team, you cannot really do that.
We gave their backfield opportunities to run it back at us, Beauden Barrett and the rest are good players so we don't want to give them opportunities but we live and we learn.
"It is tough but I think we showed some improvements in the way we play the game but at the end of the day it just wasn't good enough today.
"We are at the start of the journey, we are a young team and we can only get better for these experiences."
England deserved something from that Test, but they lose the series 2-0. Fine margins, and you just hope that they can look at this down the line with some positivity. It feels like there is more to come from this squad.
England rumble over the line, is the ball down? No try given on the field, so we go upstairs...it doesn't feel like a try. And Beauden Barrett was underneath it, is there anything he can't do?
England sub Ollie Sleightholme glides down the left wing and is stopped about 10 metres short. England now get a lineout on the left flank, five metres out...
You'll probably hear about The Bomb Squad when South Africa play later today, but Beauden Barrett is a more sublime, one-man version. That volley on the run a few minutes ago was something else.
But, there is time for England and they have a scrum on halfway.
