[Sean Everitt] doesn't inspire confidence. He's a nice man but he doesn't inspire confidence at all.

Ultimately, it's down to the players. They have weak half-backs. Glasgow are a million miles ahead, in midfield too.

Glasgow are missing 12 players today, 10 of those forwards. They could still go up against most teams in the URC with this pack and that's down to Franco Smith.

  4. Edinburgh need 'discipline and accuracy' - Everittpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2024

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Edinburgh coach Sean Everitt tells BBC Scotland: "It's great Dave [Cherry] gets a start. Delighted for him. He was born and bred here so it's great an Edinburgh boy gets an 100th game.

"We're always looking for more from our wingers and all our internationals. Unfortunately, the game didn't go that way. We weren't able to get much ball. We hope to have more possession this week and we could see them flying today.

"To beat Glasgow by 20 points is going to be difficult but if we break it down, with the first 20 minutes, the second, the third and fourth, you can get there. It has to be disciplined and accurate."

  5. Smith brands scrum-half Dobie as 'world class'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2024

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith tells BBC Scotland: "It's a new game, we aren't seeing it as an extension of last week. It's a completely new challenge. After last week, they'll bring a lot more and hopefully we are prepared for that.

"A lot has happened in the last year. We were up 14-11 with 30 minutes to go [last year] and got turned over. There's a lot of hurt from that but today we have to be the best version of ourselves.

"Johnny Matthews got hurt. It was originally the plan to give him a break, the same with George Horne. Dobie is a world class player, part of the Scotland plan and we need him on the field as often as we can."

"It's good to have George around, Ben Afshar too. We're trying to bring all three through and make sure they're best prepared for the Six Nations."

I'm expecting a backlash from Edinburgh. It's the least they can give their fans.

I watched it again and it was as bad the second time, if not worse. It's a team full of internationals, with lots of experience, and they'll not need us to tell them how poor a performance it was.

If nothing else, they need to get a bit of pride back.

  7. Last time out...published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2024

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Glasgow take a 19-point advantage into the second leg, after their 33-14 demolition of Edinburgh at Hampden Park.

A Johnny Matthews double either side of a Huw Jones score had them cantering away from their visitors at the break, before Kyle Steyn and Jamie Dobie crossed the whitewash to make it 33-0 after 66 minutes.

Sub loosehead Boan Venter came on and crashed over twice from short range to reduce the deficit, but the chasm between these sides has never been clearer.

  8. Glasgow make two changespublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2024

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Glasgow Warriors have made just two changes to the side that swept to a comprehensive first-leg victory last weekend.

Gregor Hiddleston replaces Johnny Matthews - who has a knee injury - as the starting hooker, while Jamie Dobie starts at scrum-half with George Horne dropping to the bench.

  9. Cherry to bring up century as one of four Edinburgh changespublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2024

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt has made four changes to the side heavily beaten 33-14 in the first leg.

Dave Cherry replaces Ewan Ashman as the starting hooker and makes his 100th appearance for the capital club.

Boan Venter also comes into the team after his two tries last week with Pierre Schoeman dropping to the bench, while lock Sam Skinner is preferred to Marshall Sykes.

The final change is at number eight, where Ben Muncaster comes in for Magnus Bradbury.

    The back line is unchanged.

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Welcome back rugby fans, to our coverage of the 1872 Cup.

Last weekend was either brilliant or brutal, depending on who you support. Glasgow were superb for the first hour, blowing Edinburgh away before a tiny comeback from the capital club.

It wasn't nearly enough, but it made the scoreline look a little more respectable. In truth, there is a gulf between these teams.

Will it be closer today? And who will leave with the 1872 Cup?
