The dynamic flanker scored two tries in a minute, taking a hit but still managing to touch down for his first and then ripping the ball from a Stade player before sprinting 50m to the tryline for his second.

His double - which gave Saints a commanding 21-0 lead - followed a try by Tom Lockett, who powered over after Tommy Freeman and Trevor Davison had been held up just short of the line.

But then the hosts fought back.

Peniasi Dakuwaqa produced an excellent finish in the corner and giant lock JJ van der Mescht charged down Rory Hutchison's kick and ran 40m to score under the posts.

Number eight Yoan Tanga then powered his way over with the last move of a frantic half to reduce the gap to just two points.
