What a contrast in set pieces for Wales.

The are utterly dominant in the scrum, yet the lineout is clearly struggling.

So they are getting in the right areas of the park, but they can't get that driving maul going.

That was Wales' biggest weapon last year.

It was one of the certainties in life; death, taxes and Wales scoring off a five metre driving lineout.

They need to sort that out at half-time.

In regards to who is going to be the happier coach I think they are both going to have their frustrations - we haven't really seen the best of either team.

Sadly at the moment I feel it's the same story for Wales, they are getting themselves up there just not quite clinical enough.

They've got to have a big second half in them.

I think it is a bit of a mixed bag.

From our play we've probably had the most amount of attack, we are moving the ball, using our kicks to put pressure on.

It is the same thing potentially against France when we got five metres out and didn't score that try, those things make a huge difference at the end of the game.

For me it is that clinical edge.

Wales have made nine handling errors to Italy's eight in the first half.

And the Azzurre have conceded seven penalties to Wales' six.

Ioan Cunningham's side have also lost four of their nine line-outs in the opening 40 minutes.

Plenty for both teams to improve on in the second half in Cardiff.

Far from a classic, but it is Italy who lead at the break.

Wales are staring down a Wooden Spoon if they cannot improve in the second half.

Join us for that in about 15 minutes!

The kick is straight and true.

Italy's lead is up to five with a minute remaining in this first half.

Italy win a penalty in line with the posts on the Welsh 22-metre line, Georgia Evans penalised for not rolling away.

Chance for the visitors to extend their lead.

That felt like a rush play, panic play, not controlled and we don't want to go back to what we've seen in the past games of those handling errors.

Again there is that massive gap between the Italian defensive line and the full-back, it's just being creative and playing what you see in front of you.

More handing errors, this time from Wales captain Hannah Jones, who takes her eyes off Keira Bevan's pass on half-way to hand possession back to the Azzurre.

Three minutes left until half-time. Both teams need a regroup.

Small pause in play while Italy's Sara Seye has some treatment on her arm.

Just looking at that clock, it's so important for one of these teams to score.

    Jinxed it!

For the first time all game the penalty at the scrum goes against Wales.

Good timing as far as Italy are concerned.

Beatrice Rigoni's clearing penalty looks to be staying in-field, but miscommunication between Jenny Hesketh and Lisa Neumann sees both leave it bounce out of bounds.

Neither side seems to want to take control of this game.

Italy's resulting line-out is over-thrown then knocked forward.

Wales have the scrum a few metres out. The way the scrums have gone so far this could be a huge opportunity to retake the lead.

Much better kick from Lleucu George, who gives Wales the line-out on the Italian five-metre line.

But as has been the story of the half, poor play soon follows, and yet another line-out from Wales is not straight.

    Frustrating.

The connection between 13 and the winger isn't quite working yet, I think Lisa Neumann is holding her width a bit too much so she's getting that ball flat without the pace, we need to get outside of the Italian wingers.

And another penalty at the scrum for Wales.

Referee Aimee Barrett-Theron will have to step in shortly, I've lost count of how many penalties have gone against Italy at the set piece in this half.

More unforced errors, as the Welsh line-out from Carys Phillips is not straight.

Then seconds later, Italy look to attack down the left but Sofia Stefan plays a poor forward pass which had no chance of being caught by Aura Muzzo even if it were backwards.

    Scrum to Wales!

No second guess needed for what happened at the scrum!

You guessed it, another penalty for Wales.

Lleucu George's kick moves Wales into the Italian half on their own 10-metre line.

    Wales 5-7 Italy

Both teams are struggling to forge any meaningful spells of possession, with errors creeping into the game.

The two sides exchange a couple kicks before Italy are penalised at the breakdown.

It will be a scrum to Wales when the game continues, there is a slight pause as Sisilia Tuipulotu receives some treatment.

The Wales prop looks okay to continue though, nothing serious.

As Philippa Tuttiett suggested earlier in commentary, Italy will look to use the pace of Alyssa D'Inca when kicking.

They try exactly that but the bounce of the ball takes it out of bounds for a Welsh line-out.

After two clever line-outs, this one is far more predictable and stolen back by Giordana Duca.
