Amee-Leigh Costigan turns from scorer to provider as she makes room for herself before sending sevens team-mate Beibhinn Parsons into the corner for Ireland's third try.

Dannah O'Brien's boot off the tee has been superb today as she is three from three from out wide.

They had to soak up some pressure but Ireland have done so and hit back clinically.

There's been a question mark over Fiona Tuite starting in the back row but she's started well, calling lineouts and looking really confident.

But Ireland are looking to address their line-out issue.

Scott Bemand's side create a green wall and drive Japan back outside the 22. Scrum half Moe Tsukui loses patience and puts a nice kick in over the top that bounces out for a throw.

Ireland's line-out has been shaky so far and Japan have possession again. Neve Jones atones for her errant throw with an excellent turnover at the ruck.

That was exactly the start Ireland wanted.

They were slow to settle in both warm-up games against Scotland and Canada and making a fast start was one of their main targets today.

After a couple of entries into Japan's '22' the forwards weren't able to penetrate a well-drilled Japanese defence, but slick passing out wide sent Costigan away.

Japan do well to clear the ball away but Ireland's lineout is perfect and they go through the hands to the wing.

Clean passing puts winger Amee-Leigh Costigan away and she powerfully fends opposite number Komachi Imakugi to go over in the corner.

Dannah O'Brien converts well and it is a great start for Ireland.
