Wales' season has finally finished, and what a match that was to round it off.

It has been a difficult year for Warren Gatland's side, who had lost nine straight games before this win over Queensland Reds.

It was almost a 10th straight loss, with Reds hooker Richie Asiata scoring a hat-trick of tries from driving mauls and Mac Grealy scoring two late tries.

But Kieran Hardy's 79th-minute try proved decisive.

The margin of victory could not have been slimmer, but Wales probably won't be concerned about that having finally returned to winning ways.

Fiji are up next for Wales, but that is a few months away yet. Now it is time for the Wales players to have a long-awaited rest.

And after today's pulsating contest, I think a lot of us observers are ready for one too.

Thank you for joining us, enjoy the rest of your Friday and your weekend.

    FT: Queensland Reds 35-36 Wales

Queensland Reds captain Jock Campbell told Sky Sports: "It's kind of the story of our season, losing on the bell like that.

"It was awesome, it was fun to play in. The crowd were awesome, it was really enjoyable.

"In the first half we probably overplayed a little bit but I think we got a little bit more used to their rush defence in the second half.

"With our boys at the Wallabies, it gives other boys a chance."

Wales captain Gareth Davies told Sky Sports:

“It was a good game of rugby to watch I am sure. It was a little bit too close at the end for our liking, but in fairness to the Reds they gave us a hell of a game.

“We knew all week this wasn’t going to be an easy fixture and we probably trained harder this week than we did for the two Tests against Australia.

“We expected a tough game and that’s what the Reds gave us.

“Some new players had an opportunity, some new combinations. [It was] a little bit sticky in places, especially in that first half our discipline let us down massively.

“But thankfully we won the game in the end.”

  4. 'Wales were better in that clutch moment' - Grealypublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 19 July

Queensland Reds wing Mac Grealy told Sky Sports: "We said at half-time that we felt we were really in that.

"It was just about coming back out there and playing our game.

"We just knew if we stuck to that, we'd give ourselves a chance, and we did give ourselves a chance.

"At the end of the day, they were better in that clutch moment.

"It was just a great atmosphere here at Suncorp, a lot of fans turned out, it's good to be a part of."

  5. 'It's excellent to get that win' - Lakepublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 19 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 35-36 Wales

Wales replacement hooker Dewi Lake told Sky Sports: "We've been struggling to get over the line and get that win. It's excellent to get that tonight.

"The Reds boys played outstanding, out of their skin, their driving maul was brilliant.

"One thing we've been very good at this tour is staying in games and working hard until the last minute, that proved evident tonight by scoring on the buzzer.

"Thank you to the supporters for sticking by us through tough times, hopefully this will give us a great drive going into the Autumn Internationals and next year.

"Stick with us, we've shown what we will bring in this tour, thanks for the support, we'll give it back to you."

What a breathless finish! That could have gone either way up until the final second but they have done just enough to clinch a win and end the tour on a high note.

After all the talk about Wales learning to close out games, Warren Gatland will be pleased to see his side do just that.

    Wales are over!

It is such patient build-up from Wales, who go through over 20 phases to work their way to the try-line.

Wales are almost over the phase before, as Cameron Winnett is held up a yard short.

But Kieran Hardy, who was dictating the attack, sneaks over in the left corner for the crucial try.

    Will it be the match-winner?

This stadium has erupted with noise a couple of times in the last few minutes. Once for that superb score by Mac Grealy and again just then as the Reds win a penalty with Wales desperately close to their try line.

The crowd can sense they are on the verge of an historic win unless Wales can spoil the party.
