WRU 'committed' to URC despite team cut plan
Welsh rugby sides will not be joining the English Prem, according to Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) director of rugby Dave Reddin.
Reddin said the WRU remains committed to the United Rugby Championship (URC) despite ongoing debate over the future of the professional game in Wales.
"Anglo-Welsh is not on the table," Reddin told the Scrum V podcast. "We made a commitment to the URC, are committed to the URC and we have to be faithful to that."
There had been speculation an Anglo-Welsh league could have been an option if the WRU reduced the number of professional sides from four to two, but Reddin ruled out a switch to the Prem.
The WRU is currently consulting with the Professional Rugby Board (PRB) as part of a wide-ranging review of the domestic structure, which could see significant changes, including halving the number of professional sides from four to two, by the 2027-28 season.
