Scots eye Saturday qualifiers for World Cup 2014

Scotland played three of their four home qualifiers for Euro 2012 on Tuesdays

Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan aims to secure weekend home games when he negotiates the World Cup qualifying schedule.

Regan will meet counterparts from Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Macedonia and Wales on Wednesday to discuss fixtures.

Fifa's preferred match days are Fridays and Tuesdays.

"I'd prefer to see a range of dates including weekends for those fans who cannot make it on an evening," Regan wrote on Twitter.

Scotland have not played at Hampden on Friday nights because of opposition from Strathclyde Police.

That raises the possibility of Scotland playing all of their home games in the race for Brazil 2014 on weekday evenings but Regan hopes to persuade some opponents to come to Glasgow on a Saturday afternoon.

Scotland played the Czech Republic at home on a Saturday in their unsuccessful Euro 2012 campaign but their three other Hampden encounters fell on a Tuesday.
