  1. Goodnightpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 23 April

Thank you for being with us for our coverage of day five at the World Snooker Championship.

Thursday is a strange day at the Crucible Theatre in terms of the tournament schedule, with no morning session and then first-round and second-round matches running concurrently later in the day.

By the close of play on Thursday, our line-up for the last 16 will be complete.

    13:00 BST

    • First round - Luca Brecel 4-5 Ryan Day (best of 19 frames)
    • Second round - Mark Allen v Chris Wakelin (best of 25 frames)

    19:00 BST

    • First round - Mark Selby 5-4 Ben Woollaston
    • Second round - John Higgins v Xiao Guodong
  2. Selby ends session in stylepublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 23 April

    Selby 5-4 Woollaston

Mark Selby's most confident frame of the match, containing a superb break of 135, earns him a 5-4 lead over fellow Leicester potter Ben Woollaston.

Selby was in trouble at 4-2 down and with tip issues affecting his play, but he has battled back to have an overnight advantage.

  3. Selby levelpublished at 23:23 British Summer Time 23 April

    Selby 4-4 Woollaston

Another scrappy frame in which the reds landed awkwardly and the high-value colours were tied up for long spells.

Mark Selby gets the better of it to draw level in this first-round match.

As the clock ticks close to half past 11 at night in Sheffield, the final frame in this session will begin shortly.

  4. Selby wins frame seven with 79 breakpublished at 22:48 British Summer Time 23 April

    Selby 3-4 Woollaston

Much more like it from Mark Selby, who seems to have had issues with the tip of his cue during this first session.

But a break of 79 may give him a bit more confidence in his equipment - it's brought him back within one frame of Ben Woollaston.

A tremendous break from the last red onwards seals the frame for Ben Woollaston and puts him 4-2 ahead.

That frame was another long one - they both showed some early rhythm with big breaks in the first three frames, but it's got very scrappy since then.

Judd Trump had missed the pre-tournament media day because of illness, with his preparations hampered by a bout of tonsillitis and a neck injury, but he had not contemplated withdrawing.

"I had two injuries, luckily both have gone," said Trump in his post-match news conference. "The neck injury was the worse one and I managed to get treatment just in time. I'd just been practising every day and I woke up and couldn't look to one side.

"I always turn up and play, but I probably wouldn't have won."

On facing Shaun Murphy next, Trump added: "He looked superb in his first game here and had one of the best performances of his career at the Masters. I will have to play close to my level today."

How do you fancy getting out of this snooker?

After three failures, Mark Selby does it at the fourth attempt.

    Selby 2-3 Woollaston

Mark Selby gets in first in the sixth frame but then a horrible miscue ends his break.

The reds are scattered but there is a bit of a stalemate until Ben Woolaston knocks in a long red - but the break quickly breaks down.

Other than that, he's not done a lot wrong tonight.

The blue and pink balls turn out to be the crucial ones.

Ben Woollaston leaves Mark Selby snookered on the blue and although Selby hits it, he can only put it into a pottable position.

Woollaston sinks it but leaves himself a tricky pink into the top corner. Selby pounces all over it when Woollaston leaves it near the opposite corner pocket.

    Selby back within one frame.

  11. 'Being number one brings immense pride'published at 21:42 British Summer Time 23 April

    Result: Trump 10-4 Zhou

World number one Judd Trump, speaking to BBC Four about being the top ranked player at the tournament: "In any tournament as world number one I feel immense amounts of pride. It's not only about being number one, I've performed the most consistently, and being introduced as number one brings a smile to my face."

On his fitness: "I had a neck injury just before I left, I was supposed to be here Thursday but flew in Monday. I'm looking forward to getting fully rested and improving.

"I just wanted to play well, treat it as any other tournament - sometimes I put too much emphasis on this, but it's the same as any other table when you're out there."

  12. Postpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 23 April

    Selby 1-3 Woollaston

The one-visit snooker that we were treated to in the first three frames between Mark Selby and Ben Woollaston has deserted us in frames four and five.

The first frame after the mid-session interval is another fractured one. Selby is at the table now - with one red remaining he has a narrow deficit, but green, blue and pink are all in safe positions so a clearance here is unlikely.

    Result: Trump 10-4 Zhou

Judd Trump's final break of 100 takes us to 52 centuries already at the 2025 Worlds. Bear in mind, the previous first-round record was 44.

  14. 'I felt a bit nervy'published at 21:25 British Summer Time 23 April

    Result: Trump 10-4 Zhou

World number one Judd Trump, speaking to BBC Four: "I felt a little bit nervy to be honest. They were going in somehow, that can happen. But as the game was going on, I felt better after every frame.

"Today it wasn't coming that easy. I was out of position a little bit, it wasn't as relaxed or easy in practice. But winning at the Crucible like that, you have to be proud of yourself."

On closing in on a century of centuries this season: "I can feel it in the crowd, it can feel quite tense when I get near. I'd like to get it out the way and concentrate on playing Shaun [Murphy] if possible."

  15. What does Trump's next opponent Murphy think?published at 21:20 British Summer Time 23 April

    Result: Trump 10-4 Zhou

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Four

That's the performance of the world number one, that's exactly how the world number one should play. He was phenomenal tonight.

Five frames, four centuries, it doesn't get much better than that.

We [Trump and Murphy] have had some good matches this season, he has won them all, they've all been very high standard and I think the next one will possibly be the best of them all. How do I look at that and plan for the next match? I've got no idea!

Judd Trump was in stunning form in that session with four centuries in five frames - 113, 114, 114 and 100.

That takes his season total to 98 centuries, only two away from securing a £100,000 prize for making 100 in one season.

Judd Trump faces Shaun Murphy in round two - who happens to be the studio pundit on BBC Four's coverage tonight.

Murphy is putting a brave face on it, having witnessed Trump's high-scoring form tonight.

Masters champion Murphy is in fine form himself at the moment - it should be a tremendous contest.

All four of the frames won by the world number one tonight were done with century breaks.

Ronnie O'Sullivan was in sensational form on Wednesday, winning all five frames and not letting Ali Carter score a point in four of them.

O'Sullivan made breaks of 59, 117, 74, 123 and 131, but in the post-match news conference stressed he was trying to "rebuild" his technique after losing faith in his ability.

He said: "I couldn't even watch myself play as I could see what was wrong. I just couldn't correct it and every time you make a change you think 'this is terrible'.

"I've changed my alignment, changed certain things. I had lost all connection with the cue, the timing had gone, the touch had gone, feeling had gone. Years and years of that mounted up and it got to the point where I couldn't play and it got too much.

"It got to the point where I couldn't pull the cue forwards and backwards, which was quite scary."

  20. Woollaston leads Selby at intervalpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 23 April

    Selby 1-3 Woollaston

Mark Selby has a 15-point lead with only the colours left on the table. The four-time champion has a potential long pot on the yellow available but decides to play safe instead... and gets it wrong.

Ben Woollaston capitalises to take a 3-1 lead into the mid-session interval.
