Ali will be getting concerned in his seat.

I saw him just after the first session and he looked upbeat, having closed the gap to one frame, but he's showed us nothing so far in this second session.

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

The highest break of this match so far has been 107. The balls are very well placed for O'Sullivan to pass that here.

He's up to 30 as I type, with the score 49-0 in this frame.

Is it Ronnie or Ali Carter that's been out of the game for three months?

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

Well it looked like it was set for O'Sullivan to run away with another frame, but after scoring 19 he is forced to go on the defensive.

But Carter catches his shot much too thick to leave another easy pot on for O'Sullivan.

Carter has been struggling with his safety shots so far in this second session.

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

Carter gets out of the snooker, but he catches the pack with too much pace. It pushes a couple of balls free and allows O'Sullivan the first pot of the frame.

And once again, Ronnie is away.

Shaun Murphy looking great value at again, going to have a tough second round but every year I always go it’s his year - and I’ll say it again this year

    Nick, Cheshire

It could be world number one Judd Trump in the last 16 for Masters champion Murphy - he'll find out for sure later on today.

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

Ronnie O'Sullivan starts with an excellent break which appears momentarily to have Ali Carter snookered.

However Carter finds a gap, albeit leaving a touching ball. It allows O'Sullivan to set up another difficult snooker for Carter to solve.

Ronnie looks sharp and, unfortunately for Ali, he doesn't.

When you're playing O'Sullivan at the Crucible, you're not going to get a bucketload of chances. He had two long reds that we wasn't particularly close to and a red to the middle that he probably should have got.

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

If you're just joining us to follow Ronnie O'Sullivan's progress and have not been keeping across the rest of the World Snooker Championship, the first-round matches at the Crucible are best of 19 frames and played over two sessions.

So, first to 10 wins. All to play for.

  10. O'Sullivan wins frame 10published at 14:51 British Summer Time 23 April

    O'Sullivan 6-4 Carter

After being allowed in again by Carter, O'Sullivan cleans up with a break of 59, to take the frame 109-0 and open a two-frame gap.

O'Sullivan looked near his flowing best there. Can he keep it up?

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

A mistake from Carter leaves O'Sullivan with a simple red, which he pots.

Carter has not played a good shot of note so far in this frame.

  12. Day starts with century breakpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 23 April

    Brecel 0-1 Day

On the other side of the table, a tremendous start made by Ryan Day against Luca Brecel.

A 126 break earns him the opening frame in their best-of-19 contest.

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

After a quick start to the scoring, we are now seeing some defensive play with both men playing safeties down the table.

A good shot from O'Sullivan gets a tap on the table from Carter. This match has been played in good spirits so far.

Half-century up for Ronnie - but he misses a difficult red into the bottom left.

Carter comes to the table 50 behind, with 67 remaining - but misses a fairly simple red!

Already, there's a difference in Ronnie's body language compared to yesterday.

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

Neither the pink nor the black are in commission for O'Sullivan in this break, so he's having to keep on screwing back up the table for the blue.

It looks as if, after potting a blue, the break will be over after the cue ball is left near a cushion - but Ronnie manages to find a plant to pot a red.

    Excellent shot.

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

O'Sullivan quickly reaches 25, but finds himself up the wrong end of the table.

However a clever shot to pot the yellow and flick off the cushion back towards the bulk of the reds ensures the break continues.

Ali Carter misses a difficult long pot to open the scoring, allowing O'Sullivan to the table.

Ronnie knocks in a couple of reds, a couple of blues - he already looks in good flow.

It's just about getting through this round - if you play well, it's a bonus, but it's about getting to 10 first, getting into the second round and then seeing how the championship goes.

  20. Postpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 23 April

    O'Sullivan 5-4 Carter

A few shouts of "Come on Ronnie" as play commences. No guessing who the majority of the Crucible crowd are backing.

Ali Carter breaks off in the 10th frame.
