Carter 2-3 Maguire
That little break looks to have done Stephen Maguire the world of good in his fifth frame with Ali Carter.
His focus is back and a pearler of an opening red is the precursor to a sensational break of 134 to win the frame.
Trump 4-1 Vafaei
He's caught that way too thick. Hossein Vafaei misses a black to the right corner when he's in with a chance to get back to 3-2 down.
As in three of the four previous frames, he's made to pay by Judd Trump who enjoys a run of 56 to re-establish his three-frame lead.
Trump 3-1 Vafaei
What is happening here? Now Judd Trump loses position on eight but Hossein Vafaei is left in a bit of hole.
There's no real safety on here with a red tucked up near the green and cue ball on the bottom cushion so of course he goes for an attacking shot...
He tries to clip a red into the left middle but clips the knuckle and sees his ball roll up and drop into the top left corner.
Outrageous fluke.
Trump 3-1 Vafaei
Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC One
It wa a simple pot on the red. He was worried about the cannon but you cannot afford to do that.
Trump 3-1 Vafaei
From the sublime to the ridiculous. Hossein Vafaei is going along well on 36 but then misses an absolute sitter, leaving a red in the jaws of the bottom left corner.
Trump 3-1 Vafaei
Here we go again...
Hossein Vafaei plays some superb attacking shots and this is another at the start of the fifth frame.
The Iranian has a real test of his cueing with a long red to the bottom right corner and rolls it in beautifully to leave himself on the black.
Now when it comes to century breaks Ronnie O'Sullivan leads the way.
But could we see an 1,000th ton from the 'Wizard of Wishaw' at the World Championship?
Recent form may dictate that Scotland's John Higgins does not arrive in Sheffield as one of the favourites but the four-time champion is playing some decent stuff and certainly has the pedigree if he can rediscover some belief.
Higgins meets Jamie Jones, who defeated 2010 champion Neil Robertson in the final round of qualifying on Wednesday.
Would take some going for Judd Trump to reach that special century landmark at the Crucible.
Carter 2-2 Maguire
Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre
Stephen Maguire is no stranger to the Crucible.
The 43-year-old Scot has qualified for his 20th appearance, reaching the semi-finals in 2007 and 2012, the quarter-finals five times, the last 16 twice, but losing in the first round on 10 occasions.
After a 10-6 win over China's Yuan Sijun, Maguire, 28th in the world, spoke of his frustrations at his inconsistent play.
“I’m missing a lot of balls and I got away with it as he missed a bit more than me," said Maguire. “I can play well one day and then look as if I’ve never played. I will just see what happens at the Crucible."
We've very much seen those traits in the first session so far.
Carter 2-2 Maguire
Stephen Maguire will probably feel a little aggrieved to be all square at the mid-session interval.
Just signs that Ali Carter was getting into the groove there with a 79 to move level.
Carter 1-2 Maguire
I did not see Stephen Maguire missing that.
The world number 28 fails to knock the pink into the right middle and Ali Carter is in among that balls.
Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC One
He could have won all of the first three frames. Hossein showed tremendous bravery considering what had gone before with that black off the spot.
Trump 3-1 Vafaei
Both players have had chances in this fourth frame but can Hossein Vafaei make this one count?
He shows nerves of steel and bravery to roll in a black with the cue ball tight on the right cushion to really get going.
And he then gets a timely fluke on a red while on a run of 54...surely this is it?
Judd Trump does get back to the table but needs a snooker and goes in off. Frame over and a chance for both players to grab a brew at the mid-session interval.
Carter 1-2 Maguire
Stephen Maguire nods his head after missing a black to the left corner. Ali Carter is on the board after a fairly scrappy third frame by the looks of it.
Trump 3-0 Vafaei
Judd Trump rolls in a long red to the bottom left corner but then has to play safe.
Another chance for the Englishman to get going sees him miss another long range red to the bottom right corner but that rattles in the jaws and leaves an easy starter for Hossein Vafaei near the black spot.
The Iranian rolls that in and then smashes the black in but has left himself with nowt.
Trump 3-0 Vafaei
Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC One
Hossein Vafaei has been in in every frame but he has not got control of the cue ball. He is coming out with some good pots but he is all over the place which is why he is finding it difficult to take these chances.
Trump 3-0 Vafaei
Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC One
Hossein Vafaei would have been over the line with the cross double but it is tough at the top.
Trump 3-0 Vafaei
Judd Trump takes another frame with a 72 clearance. The Englishman has been absolutely ruthless so far.
What must Hossein Vafaei be thinking?
Trump 2-0 Vafaei
Hossein Vafaei was in first in the first frame, he should really have won the second frame and this frame should really be in the bag.
But Judd Trump is on 38 and heading towards the colours.
Surely not again?
Trump 2-0 Vafaei
Famous last words but Hossein Vafaei is ticking along very nicely in the third frame and has opened up a 60-point advantage.
Can he clinch the frame at this visit? Nope it does not look like it...
He knocks another red in but then loses position after cutting the pink into the left middle.
The world number 19 goes for an outrageous double but leaves the red and all of a sudden Judd Trump is in business.
