Won a second Wimbledon title and retained his Olympic tennis crown in Rio.

The Scot became world number one for the first time and will end the year top of the rankings after his 24th consecutive win clinched the ATP World Tour finals.

Began playing tennis aged three and was initially coached, with older brother Jamie, by mother Judy.

The brothers survived the 1996 shootings at Dunblane Primary school, in which 16 children and one teacher died.

Their tennis success (Jamie is world doubles number one with Bruno Soares) has created a positive story for the town.

Andy won his first major junior championship, Florida's Orange Bowl, aged 12 and within five years was the world junior number one.

He appeared destined for major success and in 2012 won gold at the London Olympics and claimed his first Grand Slam, the US Open. A year later, he became Wimbledon's first British men's singles champion since 1936.

His second Olympic and Wimbledon titles, and world number one ranking, were part of a memorable 2016 in which he also became a father, as wife Kim gave birth to daughter Sophia.
