Calum Jarvis: GB swimmer targets 2016 Rio Olympics place

World Championship swimming gold medallist Calum Jarvis says he is confident of making the British team for next summer's Olympics in Rio.

Jarvis, 23, was part of the British team which won an historic 4x200m gold medal in Kazan last week.

"I'm pretty confident of making the team," Jarvis told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"We've got such a strong team for the 4x200, and there's a lot of guys who are doing it at the moment in Britain, it's a really strong event now."

Welsh-born Jarvis moved to Cornwall with his family when he was five years old and learnt to swim in the county before moving to Plymouth Leander at the age of 11.

He now trains in Bath and won bronze in the 200m freestyle for Wales at last summer's Commonwealth Games.

Great Britain registered a record tally of medals in Kazan earlier this month, with the country winning five golds, a silver and three bronze medals.

"We have done really well as a team," added Jarvis, who was swimming at the World Championships for the first time.

"I think a lot of that is down to the staff and management. They've done a really good job since 2012 getting it all in place.

"It's really paid off. It paid off last year as Britain had a really good swimming summer at the Commonwealth Games and the Europeans and again at the World Championships this year."
