European Championships 2018: Duncan Scott and freestyle relay team win golds

Duncan Scott won 200m freestyle gold and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay team also took gold for Britain at the European Championships in Glasgow.

Scott, 21, only scraped into the final in eighth but secured his third medal.

Freya Anderson, 17, won her second relay gold, alongside Eleanor Faulkner, Kathryn Greenslade and Holly Hibbott.

Ben Proud took 50m butterfly silver, with Georgia Davies second in the 100m backstroke, while Molly Renshaw won bronze in the 200m breaststroke final.

Scott told the BBC: "I am absolutely delighted. I didn't know what was going on and, at the last turn, I sort of realised where I was and tried to hang on."

The Scottish swimmer had already taken gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, with a silver in the 100m freestyle, but his GB team-mate James Guy was more fancied to win the race.

However Guy, 22, missed out on the podium by 0.05secs in fourth.

'I enjoy having a bit of pressure on me'

In the women's relay, Britain were in bronze medal position going into the final leg, with Anderson anchoring a team to gold for the second day running after leading the mixed 4x100m medley relay team to victory on Monday.

"I enjoy having a bit of pressure on me as it gets me going. I saw I was being caught and it really hurt, but I wanted to do it for the girls," she said.

World champion Proud, 23, who was disqualified from the event at the Commonwealth Games in April, finished 0.3secs behind Ukraine's world record holder Andriy Govorov.

Wales' Davies, 27, has already won golds in the 50m backstroke and 4x100m mixed medley relay, but was beaten by Russia's Anastasiia Fesikova.

She qualified sixth fastest but was only 0.17secs off first place in the final, with Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu finishing fourth.

Commonwealth silver medallist Renshaw, 22, finished third behind Russia's Yulia Efimova and Jessica Vall Montero of Spain, but British team-mate Chloe Tutton was disqualified from the final.

Peaty breaks European record... again

Having already broken the 50m breaststroke European Championships record in Tuesday's heats, Britain's Adam Peaty did it again, storming clear to win his semi-final in a time of 26.23secs - 0.57secs clear of his nearest rival.

The Olympic and world champion, 23, who beat his own 100m world record on Saturday, already has two golds at the championships and remains on course to become a three-time quadruple European champion.

"I glided in at the finish but tomorrow hopefully I will land on it perfectly," said Peaty, who was beaten in the event at the Commonwealths in April.

Compatriot Ross Murdoch was only 10th-fastest and did not make it through to Wednesday's final, with James Wilby already out.

Anderson will go for a third medal of the championships in the women's 100m freestyle after finishing third in her semi, although Anna Hopkin failed to advance.

In the 200m medley Siobhan-Marie O'Connor qualified fastest for the final, where she will take on compatriot Aimee Willmott, who was seventh fastest.
