Anne Keothavong made the most of her lucky loser spot to reach the second round of the Luxembourg Open with a straight-sets win over Kiki Bertens.
The British number three had lost in the final round of qualifying to Vera Dushevina but was given a reprieve and overwhelmed her Dutch opponent 6-2 6-2.
The world number 83 had been on a losing run stretching back nine matches to Wimbledon in June.
Keothavong, a semi-finalist last year, faces top seed Roberta Vinci next.
The Briton needs a strong finish to the season to defend the ranking points she earned from her good results this time last year and stay in the top 100.
Venus Williams, playing her first match since the US Open, is also through to the second round after beating WTA debutante Belinda Bencic of Luxembourg 6-3 6-1 on Tuesday.
