Everywhere Donald Trump goes, he steals the show.

So it's no surprise that everyone here is talking about the US President's expected arrival for today's match.

Trump, who was born in the Queens borough of New York where the US Open is held, is set to make his first visit since 2015.

Security has been ramped up, with airport-style scanners erected overnight because of his attendance.

It is expected he will suite in a hospitality suite which, I suspect, will be next to the net and opposite the umpire's chair.

A quick recce of Ashe shows me the comfy seats there have name cards laid out - except for a couple left intentionally free.

Trump's name is not visible, but a tell-tale sign, perhaps, is a tag bearing the name of his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

  3. A rivalry years in the makingpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 7 September

    Sinner v Alcaraz

The rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is one that has been brewing nicely since three years ago, when the pair met in the quarter-finals in New York.

An epic marathon of a match which Alcaraz eventually won.

Fast forward to now and the pair are contesting a third consecutive Grand Slam final.

"I feel like our rivalry started here playing an amazing match," said Italian world number one Sinner.

"We are two different players now, with different confidence too. Let's see what's coming."

I have been looking forward to this match since the start of this tournament. It felt inevitable. We wondered what Novak Djokovic could do in the semi-finals but he couldn't do anything.

This has all the ingredients for a fantastic match. You have the clinical ball striking of Jannik Sinner. He is precise and balanced, in the same way Novak Djokovic is.

Then you have the flamboyancy of Carlos Alcaraz and his artistry. You never know how he is going to win a point. He has looked very focused and hungry to get back on track after Wimbledon.

It’s not glamour in New York City, you know.

Especially not when it’s siling down with rain.

The thunderstorms of yesterday have carried into today and means the roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium looks likely to be closed again for the men's final.

There is no sign of daylight at the moment, although the weather is supposed to improve later.

Already this blossoming rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is turning into something pretty special. Not to mention epic.

Two of the three major finals this year have been contested by 'Sincaraz' with one win apiece - Alcaraz won an epic French Open final before Sinner came out on top at Wimbledon. The Italian also beat Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open in January.

The past seven Grand Slams have been won by either Sinner or Alcaraz with Sinner taking home four titles since picking up his first in 2024.
