There is a very healthy crowd inside the 3,560-capacity arena.

Union Jacks are plastered along the temporary stand behind the British bench, with dollops of red, white and blue - on T-shirts and bucket hats - all around.

Not many Slovakians, it must be said. Although their drummer is creating more noise than everyone else combined.

Bus loads of Spanish kids, who I saw arriving earlier, are also padding out the venue.

Not sure who they are supporting...

That was such a contrast to the service game that went before.

After a marathon opening service game, this will make Emma Raducanu feel a whole lot better - a confidence-boosting hold to love with a couple of superb winners along the way.

The key here for Raducanu is to get Hruncakova out of her comfort zone, because when she's in it, my goodness, it is devastating.

Perched in the corner of the Malaga court, watching over the action, is the prize which Great Britain hope to be lifting on Wednesday.

The names etched into the base of the trophy is a real who's who of women's tennis.

Billie Jean King, of course, is among them after several triumphs as a player and captain for the United States.

Serena Williams. Steffi Graf. Margaret Court. Chris Evert. Martina Navratilova. Justine Henin. Kim Clijsters. They're all there.

The Brits are conspicuously missing, however.

Britain have been runners-up on four occasions - 1967, 1971, 1972, 1981 - but have never won it. Is this the year?!

  6. Hruncakova holdspublished at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Raducanu 2-1 Hruncakova

Viktoria Hruncakova starts her second service game with a double fault and then falls 15-30 behind as Emma Raducanu crushes a cross-court forehand.

But Hruncakova recovers well to hold and get herself on the scoreboard.

We've hardly had any rallies in this match. There's been little rhythm for either of them. Points have been going with the first strike.

Raducanu has served well in her opening two matches in Malaga, but it hasn't got going yet today.

Her first-serve percentage has been high this week - and very effective.

Raducanu has spoken about how she is working on her service game to turn into "more of a weapon".

Lengthening her takeback again, having gone to a shorter swing in the summer, has been helping her find more rhythm and consistency. It also seems to be generating extra power.

Perhaps a few nerves are affecting her now.

Back at deuce in a Raducanu service game that has now lasted more than nine minutes...

That's brilliant tactical play from Emma Raducanu and she's being brave with that forehand.

    *Raducanu 1-0 Hruncakova

After a Raducanu ace, there's evidence of the power that Hruncakova possesses with a forehand out wide that Raducanu can't get back, and we're back to deuce.

Then a second double fault of the game brings about a third break point of the game - which Raducanu saves with a tremendous forehand winner.

A good response from Viktoria Hruncakova, who has 0-30 on the Emma Raducanu serve after a couple of groundstrokes into the net from the British number two.

And then a double fault gives Slovakia two break points to break straight back...

The backhand for Viktoria Hruncakova is just leaking a few early errors, and Great Britain have the perfect start. There's purpose in that stride to the chair from Emma Raducanu.

    Great Britain v Slovakia

I'm pretty sure both teams will have been keeping an eye on yesterday's semi-final. What a match it was between the two top five players of Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini.

Italy and Poland were involved in a classic on Monday, which Italy came through to book their place in Wednesday's final.

It's going to be a tough one today - Slovakia have played some irresistible tennis. But it has been a fabulous week so far for Great Britain.

    Raducanu v Hruncakova

Emma Raducanu's opponent, Viktoria Hruncakova, is ranked 238th in the world - although she has been as high as 43rd back in 2019.

She failed to qualify for any of this year's four Grand Slams and has only once reached the third round in the singles of a major.

Hruncakova played in the decisive doubles win against the United States in Slovakia's first victory in Malaga, and then beat Kimberly Birrell in three sets in the singles of her nation's quarter-final win over Australia.
