Only one can be champion, though.

We're not far from finding out which one.

Carlos Alcaraz fires long on the opening point.

    0-15.

"We are the champions" by Queen is the latest selection from the DJ on Philippe Chatrier.

He's been waiting for that one all afternoon. A good five hours!

Jannik Sinner puts it flush on the baseline and Carlos Alcaraz gets under the return. It's long and that's the game.

    Great response from Jannik Sinner.

His serve on the T leaves Carlos Alcaraz at full stretch and it's not coming back over the net.

    40-15.

I'm sure Carlos Alcaraz's comeback in the fourth set will serve as a warning to himself here.

He cannot take the advantage for granted in this fifth set.

Barely an empty seat on Philippe Chatrier - maybe just two according to our reporter Jonathan Jurejko - as the drama continues to build.

It's not the hold to love that Jannik Sinner just picked up, but Carlos Alcaraz battles to get over the line.

It's quite amazing, the French crowd have got behind Jannik Sinner all of a sudden.

I think it's because he has shown some emotion and that's what the Parisian love. They love to see a man who is wearing his heart on his sleeve.

Maybe he should've done this earlier...

Jannik Sinner has his back firmly up against the wall now. The Italian can not afford any further slip-ups after being broken in the opening game of this fifth and final set.

Sinner puts the frustration of that previous game to one side and holds to love.

Can he get the crucial break back next, though?

Contending with Carlos Alcaraz is one thing but dealing with a crowd largely supporting the Spaniard is another.

"Carlos, Carlos, Carlos" once again reverberates around Court Philippe Chatrier.

Jannik Sinner is not happy as he's unable to return a drop shot, claiming the serve to start the sequence was out. He's right too, but the chair umpire did not overrule.

There is good news for all the Jannik Sinner fans out there, he is jumping up on his toes and getting ready for these returns.

I think this is the most energised I've seen him in a while.

Jannik Sinner with a stunner of his own.

The Italian caresses a winner down the line to level.

How has Carlos Alcaraz done that?

The 22-year-old is falling to his knees as he somehow works the ball back over the net to lead 15-0.

Alcaraz has to take a moment to dust the red clay off his legs and arms before we get back under way.

We've just gone beyond the previous record for longest men's singles final at the French Open - four hours and 42 minutes (Open Era).

There's still a fair way to go in this marathon.

If he wins this, I think this might be Carlos Alcaraz's favourite match of his career.

The way he is engaging with the crowd has been another level today. It was almost like it was the crowd that got him back into this match with the energy they gave him.

I don't know how he came out on top of that point. Jannik Sinner got in a right kerfuffle up at the net as the ball just slipped past him.

Jannik Sinner has just taken a swig of pickle juice between games. Apparently it helps with cramps.

I'll steer clear of the "he's in a pickle" pun...

    Sinner back on serve.
