I wonder how much the ball was just starting to fluff up a bit there.
Those last couple of games started to play a part in Aryna Sabalenka just forcing it. She hasn't been getting the same pop off her shots as when those balls were fresh.
They are going to get fresh balls in this game, so let's see if that makes a difference again.

Aryna Sabalenka was hardly missing anything in the opening five games, but now the world number one who is making errors and starting to get in her own head.
Suddenly from a double break up at 4-1 she's facing three break points as Gauff looks to force her way back into this. Incredible.

That is where Coco Gauff is so impressive - she just sticks in there every point.
If she went down 5-1 then this set was absolutely done, but if she can hold serve here then this first set gets very interesting again...
It is amazing how one point can make such a huge difference.

We spoke earlier about the wind playing havoc and let's exactly what we saw there.
Sabalenka paused, not for the first time, after being annoyed by the breeze - which has been lifting up some of the top layer of clay.
Could that be a turning point?
The crowd certainly hope so. They want to see a contest and, with loads of Americans always knocking about in Paris, Gauff is getting the majority of the support.

I think Coco Gauff feels like she has to go for so much out here because Aryna Sabalenka has got off to such a quick start.
The start of this match was always going to be so important, and Sabalenka has come quick out of the blocks.
You can hear the crowd getting behind Gauff already. It does feel like she needs a helping hand.

If Aryna Sabalenka continues to hit like this, there's no stopping her. A booming forehand lands in the back corner of Coco Gauff's court and there is the double break for the world number one.
Such a tough start for Gauff, but there is a long way to go...

Coco Gauff finds a couple of big first serves to take charge on the break points and recover to deuce, much to the delight of the Court Philippe Chatrier crowd who want to see her go toe-to-toe here.
But she can't complete the great escape at the first opportunity as Sabalenka hauls her back from game point.
This is already such an important game for Gauff, but Sabalenka sets up a fourth break point.

Coco Gauff will be wondering what on earth she's doing out there right now. I don't think she has hit the same ball twice.
I think it is to do with the power of Aryna Sabalenka, she isn't feathering the ball when she is grunting like that.

Good response from Coco Gauff here. The second seed puts pressure on Aryna Sabalenka at the back of the court and forces the world number one into the net.
But there's little she can do when Sabalenka is serving like this. An ace captures an important fifth point for 40-30 and she's able to consolidate her first-set advantage.

More often than not, regardless of the scenario, Aryna Sabalenka will go big.
She produces a ridiculous second-serve ace as she takes charge on serve and does not relent from there, the Belarusian mixing up brutal groundstrokes with a drop shot as she holds to love.
No sign of any early nerves from either player here. We could be in for a cracker.

The wind is really spinning in this stadium so I think this is going to be a tricky opening game for Coco Gauff, especially with her service toss.
