    Draper 4-6 4-6 Alcaraz

Jack Draper's run in Rome has ended in the quarter-finals with Carlos Alcaraz emerging as the winner in two sets.

However, the scoreline doesn't reflect how challenging the match was for both players. You can read Jonathan Jurejko's report on Draper's defeat here.

That's all from us for now. Goodbye!

  2. 'This match gave me a lot of confidence'published at 16:13 British Summer Time

    Draper 4-6 4-6 Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz on how close to his best he feels: "It's a shame I got injured just after Barcelona but you just have to accept it, keep going, and recover as fast as I can. I'm happy to be feeling in a good rhythm again on clay in Rome. This match gave me a lot of confidence."

  3. I played with high rhythm - Alcarazpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time

    Draper 4-6 4-6 Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz on beating Jack Draper: "I think the most important thing was not thinking if I was up or down.

"I was doing the things which make me happy on court - trying to play aggressive, hitting good shots, drop shots, go to the net.

"That's what I like to do and that made the difference today. I played with such a high rhythm during the whole match and didn't let him dominate in the rallies.

"It was a good weapon for me and I'm really proud how I approached the match."

As for Jack Draper? His search for a maiden clay title on the ATP tour goes on but it's been a successful European swing in the build up to Roland Garros, making the quarter-finals here in Rome and the final in Madrid.

    Draper 4-6 4-6 Alcaraz

The scoreline suggests this was a routine day for Alcaraz but it was not a regulation 6-4 6-4 win.

He made 29 unforced errors, his first serve percentage was down at 61%, and there were three untimely double faults.

However, he roared back from 4-2 down in the first set, weathered the sustained threats to his serve throughout the second, and saved six of the eight break points he faced. You really cannot count him out on clay.

Alcaraz will play either defending champion Alexander Zverev or Lorenzo Musetti in the last four.

    Draper 4-6 4-6 Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz advances to the semi-finals of the Italian Open with a straight sets victory over Jack Draper.

On match point, Draper finds the energy for another baseline battle but a shanked forehand gives Alcaraz the win.

    Draper 4-6 4-5 Alcaraz*

How Draper will rue not capitalising on either of his two break points in the previous game.

That big hold has unleashed the beast in Alcaraz and he breaks to love in style, finishing the game with a well disguised drop shot. Draper was nowhere near it.

Alcaraz will serve for the match.

    *Draper 4-6 4-4 Alcaraz

At the second deuce, Draper gets a deserved break point as Alcaraz misses a routine volley. However, at this critical moment in the second set, Alcaraz pulls an ace out of his sleeve.

He neutralises a second break point and gets advantage with a big forehand winner. However, another unforced error for the Spaniard brings up a fifth, yes fifth, deuce.

He comes through it successfully as Draper hits a tired return into the net. You suspect Alcaraz is absolutely sick of serving.

This has been a real show of Draper's character.

Every service game for Alcaraz has been an ordeal in this second set.

The Spaniard has played more than twice as many service points as Draper across these eight games.

    Draper 4-6 4-3 Alcaraz*

For the fifth service game in a row, Alcaraz is taken to deuce.

There's another double fault from the Spaniard for 30-30 before Draper buries a passing shot winner at game point.

    Draper 4-6 4-3 Alcaraz*

Alcaraz is bamboozled by a body serve but is brought back into the game with a double fault for 15-15.

However, a trio of unforced errors from the Spaniard, including a rare miss with a forehand drop shot, allow Draper to hold quite comfortably.

Alcaraz is the one dominating the chatter now, shouting at himself after every mistake.

    *Draper 4-6 3-3 Alcaraz

It's another tight game on Alcaraz's serve as the pair trade points.

Alcaraz shows his flair with a cute sliced drop shot for 15-15 but each time he gets his nose in front, Draper pulls out a big forehand to drag himself back into the game.

They go to deuce but just the one this time as Alcaraz holds.

Another swift hold to love for Draper.

His first serve is purring and he's adding a bit of variety with a couple of successful net approaches.

We weren't in danger of writing Draper off, were we? Hmmm. Possibly.

Don't forget, he's a different beast these days.

The hours spent grafting in the gym, and on the practice court, with his team has paid dividends this season.

Bringing in fitness trainer Matt Little and physio Shane Annun - who were both key pillars of Andy Murray's inner circle - has proved to be a shrewd move.

Draper has dug deep to put pressure back onto Alcaraz.

    *Draper 4-6 2-2 Alcaraz

Alcaraz tries to hit the fluff off the ball with every forehand, doesn't he? He blasts several in Draper's direction before making no mistake with the smashed winner for 15-15, burying the ball in the dirt.

He gifts Draper a break point with a double fault but recovers to hold his serve after just one deuce as Draper's backhand down the line goes wide.

Alcaraz's first serve has gone walkabout early in this second set.

After the drama of that last game, Draper holds to 15 with limited fuss.

He's talking himself into a frenzy at the break. Could we be heading for three sets?

    *Draper 4-6 1-1 Alcaraz

Alcaraz takes the lead three times but is pegged back to deuce each time.

Draper's coach encourages him to cut off the wide serve which Alcaraz has been deploying so effectively and he's rewarded with a break point. Alcaraz tries a cute drop shot but can only find the net.

We're back on serve and Draper is delighted.

This is what Carlos Alcaraz can do to an opponent.

He keeps getting to balls, he keeps returning them, he wears you down.

Jack Draper is looking wearier as each point goes by.

The British number one is trying to shorten the points - particularly on the forehand side - by using his explosive power on that wing.

It is working to a degree as he keeps pushing Alcaraz in this service game.

  20. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Draper 4-6 0-1 Alcaraz*

Draper shouts in frustration as he buries a return into the net for 30-15 but seconds later, there's a flurry of "come ons" as Alcaraz's forehand lands long.

Alcaraz undercooks a drop shot for 40-40 and the pair are trading points as we head to a third deuce.
