Jannik Sinner has further enhanced his reputation by adding a second Grand Slam title to his cabinet.

The 23-year-old has the world at his feet and looks primed to continue adding to his collection over the years to come after a dominant 2024.

Sinner is the first Italian man to triumph at the US Open and, having lifted the Australian Open title in January, is the first player since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season.

And, with that victory, a fine two weeks of tennis at Flushing Meadows draws to a close.

It's extraordinary how this happens time and time again where you worry where the future of the game is going to go and the future is in such safe hands with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Also the quality and the class of tennis that they bring and the consistency. I know that Alcaraz went out early, perhaps that Olympic Games he had in the summer was too much for him emotionally and physically but they are going to have an amazing rivalry going forward.

They had a five-set thriller here [at the US Open] and I think we are going to see many, many more thrilling matches between them in the future.

"We went day-by-day, trying to practice well and believing. I understood, especially in this tournament how important the mental part is.

"I'm happy and proud to spend this moment with my team.

"The work never stops. I know I can still improve but you have to be proud of what you have and then work for the rest."

On what it means to win his second Grand Slam title: "This title means so much because the last period of my career was not easy. My team have supported me every day and thank you to the people who are close to me.

"I love tennis, I practice a lot for these stages but I realise that there is a life I would like to dedicate this to.

"My aunt is not feeling well health-wise and I don't know how much longer I have her in my life.

"It's nice I can still share these moments with her. She is an important person in my life and still is. If there was a wish I could make I would wish good health on everyone but unfortunately it's not possible."

The wait for an American man to win a major singles title goes on.

Andy Roddick was the last to achieve that feat when he claimed the US Open in 2003.

He's just made his way up into the stands on Arthur Ashe to hug his coaching staff, girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya, who made it to round three in the women's singles draw, and singer Seal.

Jannik Sinner has gone from strength to strength on the hard courts this season and it ends just how it started.

His victory at the Australian Open set him on a positive path and he will end 2024 as a two-time Grand Slam champion.

Sinner has lost just twice in 38 outings on this surface over the course of the year.
