Taylor Fritz was rocked in the first set. It's all well and good to have a plan but then you have got to feel the shots of your opponents and I don't think he liked what he felt.

This is the best I have seen Jannik Sinner look in the tournament.

    How does Taylor Fritz respond?

The American has lost the opening set and gone on to win twice at the US Open over the past two weeks.

He did it in the semi-finals against Frances Tiafoe and in the fourth round against eighth seed Casper Ruud.

Sinner the favourite on paper, but not sure you can put a value on the cauldron like atmosphere the American fans will create for Fritz. I'm sure whatever happens tennis will be the winner!

A pump of the fist from Jannik Sinner after Taylor Fritz's backhand has too much on it.

Sinner gets his third break of serve and we're only at the end of the first set.

    This is looking ominous.

    *Sinner 5-3 Fritz

Jannik Sinner wastes the first opportunity into the net and then gets a little over-confident with a forehand which strays long.

Even on second serve, Jannik Sinner has plenty of pace - 103mph - and Taylor Fritz returns long.

That was quite brilliant from Jannik Sinner.

He has just stepped it up a gear. He is finding out what Taylor Fritz has to offer and I feel like he is very comfortable with the pace of the match, how he is striking the ball from the back of the court, how he is defending and turning those defensive positions into attack.

Fritz keeps turning around to his camp. Tactically what can he do? He's not going to beat him from the back of the court.

Head says Sinner in 4 and Heart says Fritz in 5. I think if Sinner hits his full level, then he wins. But if Fritz executes his gameplan and Sinner's level dips, then it could be an epic. I think I need a fence to sit on and watch this. Good luck both.

Jannik Sinner isn't getting this all his own as the opening two games suggested might be the case, but he gets the hold.
