Summary

Jannik Sinner holds serve to love but that's not quite reflective of the game just gone as he was made to work hard in all four points.

He's gone a break down early on in both of the previous sets of course - so he'll just be relieved to have had no major alarms thus far in this crucial third set.

Grigor Dimitrov has got to believe in himself.

If you said to him before this match that he would be two sets up and 1-1 in the third set, he would have taken that and thought the percentages are with him. It is 75/25 at the moment.

I think he can do that if he just plays with freedom and goes with the flow.

  3. 'Different paths into senior tennis'published at 20:47 British Summer Time 7 July

    Andrew Cotter
    Commentator on BBC TV

There was a contrasting way into senior tennis for these two.

Dimitrov was the number one junior in the game, winning the boys' titles at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Sinner didn't even play in the boys' Slams, he was a later developer - he was very talented but very slight as a youngster.

    Nope, no tide-turner yet anyway.

Smash at the net and the umpteenth crunching Dimitrov serve quickly turn deuce into a hold.

Oh no. Another fall. Jannik Sinner immediately stood up and held his elbow.

The Italian journalists in front of me are watching on concerned.

  6. 'A little bit of doubt creeping in for Dimitrov'published at 20:45 British Summer Time 7 July

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

You could see Grigor Dimitrov pointing to his head there. He felt like he chose the wrong shot there and he should have gone back cross-court with the slice. Just a little bit of doubt creeping into the Bulgarian.

Some people will think it's a little silly to say Jannik Sinner has taken a lead, but psychologically he has won his opening service game of a set which he hasn't done before in this match.

If he can get a 2-0 lead here, he will start to feel better about himself.

  7. Postpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 7 July

    Sinner 3-6 5-7 1-0 Dimitrov*

Grigor Dimitrov has been finding the lines with unerring accuracy this evening and Jannik Sinner can only watch and admire as another shot clips the baseline chalk.

But from 40-0 up, the Bulgarian is pegged back to deuce, not helped by a double fault.

    Is this a tide-turner?

  8. 'Ridiculous to close the roof'published at 20:44 British Summer Time 7 July

So ridiculous to close the roof at this stage of the match. At least an hour of light left….well over a set of tennis can still be played. It's an outdoor tournament!

A delightful Dimitrov drop-volley is the the highlight of the first game back after the roof was closed.

But he sends two pretty ropey forehands into the net from 30-30 and basically gifts Jannik Sinner a welcome hold to start set three - a set the world number one has to win.

  10. 'Big job on Sinner's hands'published at 20:37 British Summer Time 7 July

    *Sinner 3-6 5-7 0-0 Dimitrov

    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

If indeed the problem has been that Jannik Sinner hurt himself when he fell over and that has affected his level, he's got a very, very big job on his hands to turn it around.

Grigor Dimitrov is a tricky customer and he knows what he's doing. He's executed his gameplan to perfection so far.

Former British number one on BBC Two

I always felt the players sweat more, and there is a little bit less air flow. It is absolutely ideal conditions, there is little wind with the roof open and none now.

The players are undergoing their re-warm-up, so to speak.

What effect will this 12-minute delay have?

A 'wooooo' from the crowd as the lights go on on Centre Court.

There is certainly something a bit special about this atmosphere.

Iga Swiatek speaking after her victory: "The beginning was pretty shaky with the double faults but I managed to play solid. I'm not sure if Clara was feeling that well, I hope she has a good recovery. It's never easy to keep your focus. Sometimes when you're not feeling well you let go of everything and it can give you a boost. I hope she's going to be fine.

On playing at Wimbledon: "Honestly it's pretty amazing. This is the first time I've ever enjoyed London. Sorry guys...I mean I've always enjoyed it. I feel good on the court when I feel good off the court. I just keep working."

On facing Samsonova: "She's a really solid player you know. Kind of even from both sides. We've played many matches. Many three-setters. It's never easy. She plays well on fast surfaces. I will trust what my coach says and get ready tactically. I'll be ready."

Iga Swiatek was absolutely excellent in that second set.

It was almost like vintage Iga Swiatek. It reminds me of when she used to be pushed in the first round or two and then once she found her own rhythm she would be an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

While we await a resumption on Centre Court, let's get some more reaction to Iga Swiatek's straight-set win over Clara Tauson that sent the Polish former world number one through to the women's quarter-finals just half hour or so ago.

  17. 'If I was Dimitrov, I would say to keep playing'published at 20:28 British Summer Time 7 July

    Sinner 3-6 5-7 Dimitrov

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

If I was Grigor Dimitrov, I would say to keep playing. These conditions are working brilliantly for him.

When you close the roof, you do have perfect conditions and light but that is going to help Jannik Sinner because it is going to slow down the pace of play and his toss will be in the right place on top of that.

So if I was Dimitrov, I would've said keep the roof open and let's try to play one more set even with the bad light. This actually favours Sinner.

Nooooo. The match is going to be paused for around 10 minutes while the roof on Centre Court is put on.

It's starting to get dark but fans won't want this enthralling contest to stop.

Jannik Sinner heads inside. No doubt to have a word with himself. Grigor Dimitrov remains in his chair.

How might this affect proceedings? It will certainly mean an electric atmosphere.

The third set point proves to be the charm for Grigor Dimitrov!

He stays patient and forces a forehand mistake from Jannik Sinner, who now has it ALL to do if he's to keep alive his hopes of a first Wimbledon title.

  20. 'Dimitrov has got to be brave'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 7 July

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Grigor Dimitrov has got to be brave. He has to go for the ace again. He is practically painting the lines at the minute.

If you don't go through them or do something spectacular, Jannik Sinner isn't giving the set to you.
