  4. What has happened on day five?published at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

Another packed day of action at Melbourne Park.

Emma Raducanu started us off with a 6-3 7-5 victory over Amanda Anisimova. She sets up a third-round tie against Iga Swiatek, who beat Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova 6-0 6-1 in an hour.

But it was bad news for British number one Katie Boulter who went down 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-2 to Veronika Kudermetova in a roller coaster match.

A tearful Ons Jabeur overcame breathing issues to beat Colombian Camila Osorio 7-5 6-3, later saying she is struggling with a flare-up of her asthma.

In the men's singles, there were wins for Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune, Ben Shelton and, as we've just seen, top seed Jannik Sinner.

American Taylor Fritz also progressed to the third round and said he will dedicate his first-round prize money to the support victims from the Los Angeles wildfires.

On it being the first time that Jannik Sinner is defending a Grand Slam, he said: “It’s definitely a different feeling but there are so many beautiful moments on and off the court that has happened to me here in this beautiful place.

“It’s different but I take it as a chance to hopefully do it again, there’s still a very long way to go, we go day by day. From today we know my level can improve which is the most important and hopefully I can show this in the next round and hopefully again it’s going to be a great tournament for me.”

  7. 'This could be a big upset'published at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

On Emma Raducanu's third-round tie against Iga Swiatek on Saturday:

I wouldn't be afraid to say that this could be a big upset because Emma Raducanu loves the spotlight, this is what Emma is made for.

When everything clicks for her and hopefully she doesn't have any physical problems, she is super dangerous for Iga Swiatek.

We know Iga can be very vunerable on these courts and does not feel as comfortable in front of the fans here as much as Emma.

The only thing is Emma has not played someone with that intensity and that calibre for a long time.

  8. 'It’s always tough to play against players who I don’t know very well' - Sinnerpublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

World number 1 Jannik Sinner on his win over Tristan Schoolkate said: “I haven’t played so many juniors but it’s always tough to play against players who I don’t know very well, I felt like he was serving really well and he was playing much better at the beginning than I was.

“With the crowd as well it was an amazing atmosphere so thank you so much for coming as well, it’s a very special place and for the Australians to play here with the home crowd but I have to be very happy still with my performance. It’s never taking things for granted so I’m very glad again to be in the next round.”

On the next round: “We saw this in not only this tournament but every tournament there is always someone who comes in and plays very well. Every round here is very tough, everyone who is in the first, second or third round deserves to be there.

"It was a very tough match, I can improve but today I was struggling a bit with the wind, it was quite breezy but I take it and it was a good chance to have the honour to play in the evening for the night session, it’s such a beautiful court and it was amazing.”

On the weather conditions: “The wind was breezing but it’s always much better to play in these courts than on the outside courts because they are even worse.

"Let’s see, the conditions can change and everyday can be very difficult, it can change the level of each player so let’s see what’s coming but I’m happy to be here and in the next round and we will see, hopefully I can raise my level.”

  9. No 'bad blood' between Raducanu and Murraypublished at 11:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

Emma Raducanu has had a lot on her plate in her young career with injuries and inconsistency a prominent feature.

When she pulled out of the mixed doubles last year at Wimbledon many were disappointed. She had been due to play alongside Andy Murray in what would have been his final match at the All England Club but withdrew to focus on her singles bid.

And Raducanu has told the PA news agency following her second-round victory in Melbourne that she feared there would be "bad blood" between herself and Murray.

"Afterwards I sent him a long message basically apologising if I caused any trouble, I guess, at Wimbledon. That's definitely the last thing I want," Raducanu said.

"He's someone that I've grown up looking up to and I don't want any bad blood or harsh feelings with him. I sent him a long message and he took it really well and responded saying he was disappointed but he understood.

"We're fine now. We walk past each other and say, 'hello', 'well done'. It's obviously really cool seeing him with Novak (Djokovic) here as well."

  10. Kyrgios and Kokkinakis retirepublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

    Well, that's a shame.

Australian pair Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis have retired from their doubles match.

Kyrgios struggled with an abdominal injury in his singles loss to Jacob Fearnley a couple of days ago and Kokkinakis has also been struggling with injury.

It looks like it was just a bit too much for the duo today.

Their compatriots James Duckworth and Aleksandar Vukic progress.

A good effort from Tristan Schoolkate, who was lapping up that support from his home crowd.

That was the first set Jannik Sinner has dropped since October, so that's a pretty decent achievement.

That was a beautiful performance after that first set with Tristan Schoolkate fighting at the top of his level, Sinner was really able to fight hard and save his second set, get that break, and as soon as he got in control he never let it go.

You want Tristan Schoolkate to bring this sort of energy into his events after this because if he's able to replicate that he won't be sticking at world number 173 very long.

When you watch these top players I love to see how they have a way of making their opponents look like they are the passenger in the match, you can see based on the way they control the energy and all the intricacies throughout the match, between the points and a change of ends.

When Jannik Sinner walks out to play these matches that he looks like he's in control of the environment, of the crowd and where the ball gets struck.
