USA are the most successful side in Billie Jean King Cup history, winning a record 18 titles and finishing as runners-up a further 12 times.

However, they’ve only got their hands on the trophy twice in the past 25 years, winning in 2000 and 2017.

They beat Kazakhstan 2-1 in the quarter-finals to set up today’s meeting with Great Britain and captain Lindsay Davenport has brought a star-studded side.

Jessica Pegula (no.7) and Emma Navarro (no.18) are both ranked inside the world’s top 20 singles players, with Pegula recently reaching the semi-finals of the US Open.

Taylor Townsend is the number one-ranked doubles player and a two-time Grand Slam champion.

Jasmine Paolini guided defending champions Italy to a third consecutive Billie Jean King Cup final by winning a gruelling three-set battle with Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina before sealing the tie in a decisive doubles encounter alongside partner Sara Errani.

Ukraine took the first point of the tie when Marta Kostyuk beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2 6-3 in the opening match.

However, Paolini fought back from a set down to beat Svitolina 3-6 6-4 6-4 before partnering Errani to a straight-set victory (6-2 6-3) over Kostyuk and Lyudmyla Kichenok.

Italy have won the BJK Cup on five occasions, with all of their triumphs coming since 2006, and reached a further two finals.
