Then a brilliant passing shot from the American!

Terrific turnaround from Li, now she serves for the set.

Big ace out wide from Raducanu, her fourth of the match. She pumps her fist to the crowd.

    *Raducanu 6-6 Li (3-3)

Mini-break gone, as Ann Li pushes a forehand long.

As in the set itself, Raducanu has got herself back level.

    Raducanu 6-6 Li* (1-2)

Following her slip earlier, Emma Raducanu has been moving a bit gingerly and stretching her right leg. Nothing to suggest she is in any real trouble though.

Li however gets the early mini-break after an excellent return of Raducanu's serve.

    Raducanu 6-6 Li

After being forced to deuce as she served to stay in the set last time around, this one is rather calmer for Emma Raducanu.

She answers a couple of dangerous returns from Li, and holds to 15.

    Tie-break time!

    *Raducanu 5-6 Li

Ooh, a nasty slip behind the baseline for Emma Raducanu as she attempts to get back to a Li forehand and loses her footing.

Thankfully Raducanu is up and appears unhurt.

Li holds to love, polishing it off with an ace.

    Raducanu 5-5 Li*

But Raducanu is fighting, and holds as Lu twice goes long.

    *Raducanu 4-5 Li

A brilliant rescue from Ann Li on the first point of this crucial game, stopping to rescue a volley from Emma Raducanu and sending it into the open court.

Raducanu recovers, but then throws in the first double fault of the match now - nervy times at 40-30...

And then a forehand slice drifts wide from the Brit. Deuce.

  9. Draw opens up for Raducanupublished at 15:17 British Summer Time

Emma Raducanu is the seventh seed for the women's singles at Eastbourne - and has a chance to go deep in this tournament after a couple of shocks yesterday.

She was on course to meet top seed Daria Kasatkina in the quarter-finals - but the reigning champion was stunned by Lulu Sun. The world number 46 triumphed 7-5 2-6 6-3.

Of course, Raducanu will not take Sun lightly should they meet in the last eight - the New Zealander infamously dumped Raducanu out in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2024.

But Raducanu has an added chance of making it that far after her prospective second round opponent, twice Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur, also suffered an upset on Monday.

The Tunisian was defeated 7-5 6-2 by Maya Joint of Australia. Joint will face the winner of Raducanu v Li next.

    *Raducanu 4-5 Li

This is a remarkably close match - Li holds to love, and that's the first time we've seen that in this encounter.

Raducanu must now save to stay in the first set.

    Raducanu 4-4 Li*

Raducanu serves up an ace which shaves a millimetre of chalk from the line, 30-0.

Her next serve is interrupted at the last moment as a very chunky seagull flies right across court in her eyeline. Chuckles from the crowd and even Emma raises a smile.

She keeps her focus and holds serve to 15.

  12. Don't get blown off coursepublished at 15:10 British Summer Time

Each tournament brings its own challenge to players. At Eastbourne, the wind blowing in off the South coast offers its own issues.

The match between Daria Kasatkina and Lulu Sun was particularly wind-affected yesterday with both players struggling with the effects of the weather on the ball and their play.

Raducanu, who reached the quarter-finals of Eastbourne last year before being beaten by Kasatkina, knows the impact the conditions can have.

“It’s so windy – I definitely forgot how windy it was so I’m trying to get used to that," she told the LTA website. "In London I was feeling good but come to Eastbourne, not so good with the conditions, but I think that’s something that everyone has to accept and come to terms with.

“It’s going to be a battle of who can manage the conditions better and who can manage themselves and their attitude and not get too frustrated.”

    *Raducanu 3-4 Li

Li holds as an attempted Raducanu lob is blown out by the wind.

This is now a very even, absorbing encounter.

    Raducanu 3-3 Li*

Ann Li has not done much wrong in the last three games, but her opponent has really raised her game.

Raducanu steps into Li's second serve and sends an undefendable return. But an undaunted Li moves up to the net and presses Raducanu into going wide on the next point.

A first ace of the match from Li... but another weak second serve is then punished by Raducanu. Deuce.

  15. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 3-3 Li*

You can see the confidence visibly growing in Emma Raducanu as she attempts bigger and better shots.

However she can do nothing about Li again getting the favour of the net cord, allowing the American to draw level at 30-30.

A huge serve out wide takes Raducanu to game point, and she roars once again.

And Li goes long. We are all square.

    *Raducanu 2-3 Li

The earlier match between Harriet Dart and Barbora Krejcikova wasplayed in particularly miserable conditions - both women were in long sleeves and leggings as they battled the wind and rain.

Conditions are much more favourable now, with the sun out in Eastbourne. Both Raducanu and Li are in short sleeves.

Still a fair bit of a breeze around though, if the trees are anything to go by.

  17. Raducanu breaks backpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time

    *Raducanu 2-3 Li

Emma Raducanu seems to have overcome her sluggish start, chasing down a Li drop shot and returning it past the American.

Li then finds the net, and the Brit roars with a fistpump as she moves 0-30 up.

A brilliant backhand winner earns Raducanu another two break points. And this time she makes them count as Li nets.

  18. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time

    Raducanu 1-3 Li*

Emma Raducanu produces the first ace of the match with a lovely serve that kicked off the turf and had Ann Li wafting at thin air.

Raducanu holds to 15 and has, belatedly, arrived in this match.

  19. Tournament 'still going ahead' despite Eastbourne evacuationpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time

The Eastbourne Open will continue as planned in Devonshire Park despite around 160 homes being evacuated nearby, Eastbourne Borough Council leader Stephen Holt has told the BBC.

People have been evacuated after a "bottle of unidentified liquid" was found in a house in Eastbourne. There is no active threat and the incident is not terror-related.

  20. Li saves three break pointspublished at 14:52 British Summer Time

    *Raducanu 0-3 Li

Raducanu gathers herself and moves 0-40 ahead on the Li serve. Her shot to set up three break points is the best of the match so far, a perfectly measured back hand drop shot that Usain Bolt would not have been quick enough to reach.

But the first two break points are spurned by Raducanu after a pair of mishit cross court drives, and then she finds the net. Deuce.

Li rescues the game and has firm control of the opening set.
