What a day for Jack Draper!

The British number one came through his first Grand Slam quarter-final with flying colours, beating Alex de Minaur 6-3 7-5 6-2 to book his place in the last four.

You can read Matthew Henry's report right here.

Draper was superb and has still yet to drop a set - it's shades of Emma Raducanu in 2021 - but there was still the odd tricky moment.

Not least when he needed a medical timeout and had his right thigh strapped up early in the second set.

De Minaur was also struggling but showed real grit to push Draper all the way in the second set. However, Draper stood firm and dominated the third to clinch a huge win.

We have to wait until Friday for his semi-final but we'll be back on Thursday when it's women's semi-final day in New York. Be sure to join us for that!

  2. Still to come at Flushing Meadows...published at 21:53 British Summer Time 4 September

Karolina Muchova will face either top seed Iga Swiatek or American sixth seed Jessica Peluga in the semi-finals.

They are the first match of the evening session on Arthur Ashe and while Peluga will have the backing of the crowd, Swiatek goes in as the favourite.

Following that one, it's a blockbuster men's quarter-final between world number one Jannik Sinner and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Jack Draper will be watching. He will face the winner in the semi-finals on Friday.

Karolina Muchova spoke earlier after beating Beatriz Haddad Maia to reach her second consecutive US Open semi-final: "A little bit of a weird match I have to say. I had some problems but I wouldn't like to comment on them if that's fine. I'm happy I managed it with the run to the bathroom and back. Sorry if I disturbed anyone but I had no other choice."

On serving for the match with new balls: "They helped a lot. The ball goes faster, and you can put more spin on, so I was pretty happy. I was trying to put the first serves in. I knew it could make some problems so that was nice."

On the sports she played as a child to help develop her tennis game: "My dad was a footballer and I was always around my brother so it was handball, football, volleyball, everything, synchronised swimming, all the weird things so I'm sure it helped me with the moves."

On facing Iga Swiatek or Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals: "I'm really happy. I wouldn't say that before the tournament. Let the better player win. Every round is very tough here and I'm sure it's going to be a tough and exciting match."

That's almost it from us after a momentous win in the young career of Jack Draper.

His straight-set win over 10th seed Alex de Minaur means he is the first British man through to the US Open semi-finals since Andy Murray in 2012 - the year he won the tournament.

More on that in a moment but first, a look at what else has happened today at Flushing Meadows and what is still to come...

There will be a massive, massive step up in class and level for the next match and that is going to be a huge gulf of difference and he is suddenly going to have to find a much higher level.

He has shown everyone that he can play at a high level it's whether he can sustain it against one of these big guns.

It's either going to be Medvedev or Sinner and that is a huge, huge difference in terms of the calibre of opponents he has been playing.

    David Law
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Jack Draper has taken advantage of the fact that Carlos Alcaraz went out and then he's absolutely thrashed the guy that beat Alcaraz. That's all you can do.

He is handling every stage of this as well as you can. If he carries on like this, who knows where it might take him.

The next match he will genuinely play one of the best players in the world, certainly the two best players left in the draw ranking wise and achievement wise are playing each other tonight and he will play the winner.

It's going to get tougher but my word has he been impressive.

While Jack Draper can look forward to his first Grand Slam semi-final, the wait goes on for Alex de Minaur.

The Australian has made four quarter-finals but is yet to win through to the last four.

He was forced to withdraw ahead of his quarter-final against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon because of a hip injury and that appeared to be bothering him again today.

Real frustration for him but there will be other chances for the 25-year-old. He'll just hope he's fully fit when the next one comes.

Anon: Jack, you're the real deal... you're going all the way.

Jon: I would say unbelievable, but I’m not sure it is - there are statements, but this was standard! Jack Draper was great throughout; dominated his serve of course, pacey & pushed De Minaur wide and centrally; in open play his power shrank his opponent. Draper should be feared by ALL!

Credit to Alex, he is an amazing fighter, an unbelievable player and we are going to have many more battles to come."
