  1. Break point for De Minaurpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 4 September

    *Draper 2-0 De Minaur

Alex de Minaur's speed is his great strength. If that is any way compromised then it will have a big impact.

Draper, though, should not give away gifts. Two double faults in this game give the Australian an immediate chance to break back.

I think there is a little bit of a hobble from Alex de Minaur to the forehand side.

When he is running to that forehand, he is not getting a good first step and pushing out of the corner very well so far.

Does it loosen up, does it get better? Probably.

Well that's a more than confident start.

Britain's Jack Draper does not lose a point in a first game which includes two booming serves that De Minaur cannot return.

This is the 22-year-old's first match on this famous court.

  9. 'Always a really tough challenge to face De Minaur' - Draperpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 4 September

    Draper v De Minaur

British men's number one Jack Draper spoke to tennis broadcaster David Law on BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of his first Grand Slam quarter-final: "I've definitely felt more and more confident in myself as this year has gone on, I've felt like I have experienced more things and I've put in so much hard work in the last year and a half, consistent work where sometimes as a tennis player if your preparation is not great then you can maybe be off one day and not so good the next day. One of my main goals was to be consistently great in practice and keep my body robust and just all round get stronger and stronger. I think some of that work is paying off and I'm just glad to be in the position I am in.

On being proud of where he is at the moment: "Of course. As tennis players we are so busy trying to achieve that we never really reflect on what we are doing. I think after the tournament I can look back and be proud of whatever I have achieved. For now I'm focused on the next round and hopefully going further."

On facing Alex de Minaur: "Alex always brings a high intensity, makes very little errors, incredibly fast, probably one of the fastest players on the tour and he has had an amazing year. He's been very consistent, emotionally very stable. He always gives his best and he's always a really tough challenge whenever I have faced him and whenever I watch him play so it will be a tough match."

The fact that [Alex] de Minaur runs a lot of balls down might not be the best set up for Jack Draper but the fact that he is not going to hit him off the court is also great.

It is kind of in Jack's hands. He is going to be able to dictate the points which is a good feeling to have when you are out there, that you can swing freely, you're not being put under pressure all the time.

I do think that is the positive thing about playing de Minaur and the fact that he had a pretty serious injury at Wimbledon, who knows after playing a few matches here already on the hard court when you play longer sets, longer matches anything can happen. But I do think de Minaur gives you a good rhythm out there.

Jack [Draper] is in a different place, he has taken his game up a notch or two and there is much more confidence.

Serving has been clutch when he has really needed it, although he would like more first serves in.

That leftie serve on the outside where he's standing a little bit further out and getting more acute angles on it, it's been a nightmare for all the players.

The forehand, when I have watched it live, it has so much movement and curve on it and it's creating a lot of unforced errors and de Minaur's forehand can break down too.

Of course he is going to make Jack Draper work for it but he's going to be equally as nervous about trying to make a semi-final.

Jack Draper's run to a first Grand Slam quarter-final has been superb.

He has got here without dropping a set.

Today's opponent is a step up, however. He faces Australian 10th seed Alex de Minaur.

It is the first time in the tournament Draper is playing a player who is ranked above him.

De Minaur has played in four of these Grand Slam quarter-finals - this his third in a row - although he is yet to win one.

He leads the head-to-head against Draper 3-0.

  17. 'Draper has the raw power'published at 18:53 British Summer Time 4 September

Today is the day for Jack Draper, trying to reach the US Open semi-finals and it's an Ashes battle against Alex de Minaur with the Australian the first seeded opponent that Draper has faced.

But, as they say, you can only beat what's in front of you and Draper has not dropped a set in four rounds.

De Minaur was denied the chance to play in the Wimbledon quarter-final this year against Novak Djokovic, that's because he had to pull out before the match having heard a loud crack in his hip in the final game of his fourth-round victory.

He certainly has the experience, Draper though has the raw power, the big serve and a lot may come down to how Draper takes to the cavernous Arthur Ashe Stadium in his first ever appearance.

Now I should say a bit of mystery has built around this match over the past few hours.

Alex de Minaur only practised for 15 minutes earlier and looked far from his usual spritely self. He rolled in a few serves, strolled around a bit and that was it.

Is there an injury, perhaps? We'll have to watch out for it.

The players are expected on court shortly.

  19. Who is Jack Draper?published at 18:47 British Summer Time 4 September

    Jack Draper

Some of you might be just getting to know Jack Draper. He has been highly-rated for a while.

He took a set off Novak Djokovic as a 19-year-old on his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon in 2021 and reached the US Open third round a year later before going one better in 2023.

The big-serving, powerful leftie was dogged by injuries last year but became British number one in June - the month he won his first title on the ATP Tour in Stuttgart.

He is now at a career-high 25 in the world rankings and ready for his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

"He's managed to have a long period of time where he hasn't missed months of being on tour, so he's banking way more experience," Great Britain Davis Cup captain Leon Smith told BBC Sport.

Away from the court Draper is a bit of a fashion-lover. He's already featured in Vogue and Anna Wintour was in his box in the previous round.

What is it about Britons in NYC? For all of the talk about Wimbledon, it's on the courts of Flushing Meadows where they first shine bright.

Andy Murray reached his first Grand Slam final here. He won his first major in New York too.

Greg Rusedski's only Slam final was on these courts and you don't need me to remind you about Emma Raducanu's win.

Today Jack Draper looks to continue that and write his own fairytale in New York.
