There's just a few sloppy shots creeping in for Jack Draper right now, but again that is completely to be expected.

A first round of a Grand Slam brings those nerves anyway, but then you have to add on the fact that he hasn't played a match for a few weeks as well. It's good that he feels these first serve and deuce moments though.

  2. Draper holdspublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 25 August

    Draper 5-3 Gomez*

Good anticipation from both players with some difficult shots at the net but Federico Gomez takes the point with a nifty drop shot.

Jack Draper goes for pure power to bring up a fourth game point then finally takes it when Gomez fires wide.

    Break still in tact.

    *Draper 4-3 Gomez

    Oh dear.

Jack Draper sends his serve out beautifully wide and has the court at his mercy to take what has been a tricky service game.

But instead he fires long and he's making things tough for himself here at deuce.

Jack's first serve speeds are markedly lower than his average first serve speeds. Certainly the arm 'issue' is still there, whether that is mentally or physically or both.

  5. Keys stumbles againpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 25 August

    Keys 7-6 (12-10) 3-2 Zarazua*

Just when Madison Keys seemed to be in control, she throws in a double fault and an unforced error to give Renata Zarazua two break points.

The Mexican, who had looked a bit flat after losing that marathon first set, gladly accepts the lifeline and she's back in the match.

Ouch. The ball kid is hit by the whizzing forehand of Federico Gomez but looks to be OK.

Difficult start to the service game for Jack Draper, who falls to 0-30.

  7. Draper breaks to lovepublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 25 August

    *Draper 4-3 Gomez

Another unusual shot choice from Federico Gomez as he hits the ball behind his back having made his run too soon with Jack Draper's forehand whistling behind him.

That's two consecutive games to love wrapped up by Jack Draper.

  8. Postpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 25 August

    Draper 3-3 Gomez*

Well that was a bit odd.

Federico Gomez goes for the tweener shot 0-30 down after a good return from Jack Draper and that brings up three break points for the Briton.

  9. Draper holds to lovepublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 25 August

    Draper 3-3 Gomez*

Jack Draper wraps up a hold to love with an ace as we remain on serve in set one.

    Powering through this one.

  10. Keys takes chargepublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 25 August

    Keys 7-6 (12-10) 3-0 Zarazua*

Keys looks a lot more relaxed after coming through that first set, and wins 10 of the first 11 points of the second set to race to a 3-0 lead.

    Daniel Kiernan

We might see a bit of a messy first set here from Jack Draper. I don't want to do him a disservice but seven weeks is a long time for any tennis player not to compete.

He will have some nerves, especially after being a semi-finalist last year, so that will be in his mind a little bit. This should be a nice match for him to settle into the tournament though.

Sixth seed Madison Keys takes the first set as expected but that doesn't tell half the story.

The American's erratic play continues into the tie-break and she has to save another three set points.

She yells with relief as she finally clinches the set 12-10 with her fourth set point.

Renata Zarazua will be ruing a huge missed opportunity - squandering five set points against the Australian Open champion, who hit 37 unforced errors in the first set, which has lasted a mammoth 72 minutes.

    Draper 2-2 Gomez*

Another hold to 15 for Jack Draper as he settles into his first singles match since that shock defeat at Wimbledon.

He then quickly gets out to 0-30 on the Federico Gomez serve. Time to start making inroads?

  15. 'It was tough to see Korda like that'published at 18:06 British Summer Time 25 August

    Korda 5-7 4-6 Norrie

Cameron Norrie, speaking to Sky Sports, after Sebastian Korda's retirement: "It was a tough first set. It could have gone either way. I saved a lot of break points and played well at the end. He was serve and volleying and I couldn't get rhythm. I feel for Sebastian. He's been out the whole summer, he's an amazing talent and he's beaten me the last few times we've played. It's tough to see him ending like that.

On feeling the nerves of being back in New York: "I was very nervous for the match. Playing a Grand Slam match at 11am... trying to get rice down at 10am is not easy! I was nervous but prepared really well. I had the chance to rest and I had a solid match, so I'm happy to get through.

On the crowd at Flushing Meadows: "It was really cool to walk out on to court today and see a packed stadium at 11am. I was smiling to see so much support here.

That's a heck of a first serve Federico Gomez has in his locker - he slams one down at 136mph to bring up game points then sees off the hold with relative ease.

  17. 'We want to see Korda consistently on court'published at 18:02 British Summer Time 25 August

    Korda 5-7 4-6 Norrie

    Daniel Kiernan
Former British tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2

That's difficult to see. It is always difficult to see athletes in such great turmoil.

Let's hope Sebastian Korda gets better soon. He is a talent to be reckoned with at the very top of the game and we want to see him consistently on the court, that's for sure.

  18. Draper holdspublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 25 August

    Draper 1-1 Gomez*

Jack Draper does have a supportive sleeve on his arm from that injury we were discussing earlier.

One forehand into the net aside, he looks to be hitting the ball pretty well in his opening service game, though, and takes the hold to 15.

  19. Korda retirespublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 25 August

    Korda 5-7 4-6 Norrie

Oh no, that's horrible to see.

After the anguish of losing that set, Sebastian Korda has taken the decision to retire. He's got his head in his hands on the sidelines.

The American was struggling at the start of that second set, and called a medical timeout.

But he looked to be in far better shape as the set wore on and he came agonisingly close to breaking back in that final game before Norrie took the second set.

Nerves from both players there as Sebastian Korda lets a love-30 lead go, before Cameron Norrie double faults on set point.

The American then earns himself THREE break point opportunities but was unable to take any of them.

After a fourth deuce, Norrie finally wraps up the set with his fourth set point.
