All out aggression from the Spaniard. He volleys so beautifully – there’s so much to learn watching him.

Too good. Carlos Alcaraz sprints to reach the ball and somehow has the control to lift over the most delicate of drop shots.

A series of misses from both players, however, takes us to deuce.

Warm applause as Jack Draper reappears. Let's see what shape he is in.

He does a few shadow forehands on the baseline between Alcaraz's service points.

Draper has talked a lot about his improved mental resilience - he's going to need every bit of that here.

Jack's back. The British number one puffs out his cheeks before running to the baseline to wait for Carlos Alcaraz's serve.

Carlos Alcaraz appeared a bit unsettled during that brief blip in that opening set, but he's looking just fine now.

The four-time major winner has got a smile on his face and is looking relaxed as he chats to his team while twirling his racquet on his finger.

While it was a competitive set, Draper still did not quite have enough to make Alcaraz pay.

    Now he's called the trainer.

Not exactly sure what the issue is, although we know he had a hip problem in the off season.

He was also shaking off the left leg early in the set.

After a consultation, Draper slinks off court for a medical time-out.

Jack Draper winced towards the end of that opening set and it seems like he's in a bit of bother.

The British number one calls for the trainer before heading off court for a medical timeout.

That was breathtaking ending to that set.

That was a difficult tricky first set with Jack Draper as much as he could to make it as awkward as possible.

Draper is now looking up a mountain.

  11. Game and first set - Alcarazpublished at 06:02 Greenwich Mean Time

    Draper 5-7 0-0 Alcaraz*

Jack Draper catches Carlos Alcaraz off guard with a quick switch in play, leaving the Spaniard rooted as he dinks over the drop shot.

But that won't be enough. Alcaraz, sent one way then the other, defends well and Jack Draper's run to the net is halted by a brilliant forehand winner.

A lot of work to do for Draper now.

  12. Set points Alcarazpublished at 05:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Draper 5-6 Alcaraz

Jack Draper goes long on the first point, and after doing so well to reach Carlos Alcaraz's drop shot on the next, he sends the pass beyond the baseline to gift his opponent a 0-30 lead.

And there's another long hit from the Briton. Two set points for Alcaraz.

  13. 'Relief for Alcaraz'published at 05:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    *Draper 5-6 Alcaraz

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Quite a bit of emotion coming out of Alcaraz, just relief getting through it. Some of the service games have not been straightforward, coming back from 0-30 down, double faults...

I think he just lost his concentration and the movement off the forehand from Jack Draper has caused a lot of problems.

The volume and intensity of Alcaraz's 'vamos!' when he holds for 6-5 illustrates how much tension he is feeling.

Carlos Alcaraz's serve comes to his rescue before Jack Draper whacks the ball with the rim of his racquet, sending the ball flying into the crowd and into the hands of one lucky spectator.

The Spanish third seed lets a huge roar of relief out as he gets the job done and places the pressure back on Draper's shoulders.

The unforced errors are flying off the racquet of Carlos Alcaraz.

    There's his 19th. And then a 20th!

Jack Draper only has six in comparison and he's got himself a half-chance at 30-30.

  17. Draper holdspublished at 05:51 Greenwich Mean Time

    Draper 5-5 Alcaraz*

That's unsettled Carlos Alcaraz. He's not happy and complains to the umpire about something during the change of ends.

After a double fault and a miss, Jack Draper needs something big on the serve and he delivers two big ones to get the hold over the line.

    Well, well, well.

Any thoughts that Alcaraz was going to run away with the set have proved unfounded.

His serve is still super shaky and Draper takes advantage.

Game on. The crowd, many wafting abanico fans and paper cut-outs of tennis balls, find their voice again.

Yes he can! Jack Draper attacks Carlos Alcaraz's serve and piles on the pressure before the world number three plants the ball into the net.

This service game has gone a little scrappy.

I guess Alcaraz was worried about Jack Draper on the run.
