    Boulter 0-0 Marino*

After a couple of misses, Rebecca Marino redeems herself and gets herself back in the game with a ferocious ace straight down the T.

But Boulter gets herself back in it, bringing us to deuce, with a flinging forehand that is out of the Canadian's reach.

Van de Zandschulp 1-6 5-4 De Minaur*

Alex de Minaur holds his serve with an impressive ace after going 40-0 up.

The pair then tussled it out at deuce on Van de Zandschulp's service - hitting a 19-shot rally whilst doing so - with the Dutchman staying in the game and managing to see it out.

De Minaur returns to serve to stay in this second set.

  7. Boulter looking to improve Grand Slam recordpublished at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Katie Boulter won just three matches across her four major appearances last year, a record she will certainly be hoping to improve on this season.

But the 28-year-old has previously found Melbourne Park a difficult place to come, having won just two of four matches there.

The Briton won two singles titles last year, in Nottingham and San Diego, and announced her engagement to Australia's world number nine Alex de Minaur, currently in action over on Rod laver Arena, in December.

  8. Boulter aims to join British trio in second roundpublished at 09:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

British number one Katie Boulter begins her Australian Open against Canada's Rebecca Marino on Kia Arena.

The world number 25 is seeded 22nd in Melbourne - her career-highest seed at a Slam.

Overall this is her 15th Grand Slam main draw appearance at a Slam, but she is yet to get beyond the third round.

Following opening round wins for Emma Raducanu, Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart there are already three British women through to the Australian Open second round for the first time since 1991.

    Can Boulter make it four?

There is the breakthrough Botic van de Zandschulp needed!

De Minaur is starting to show some signs of pressure, after handing the Dutchman a break point following a double fault. The Australian then came to the net and powered one long on break point.

Van de Zandschulp is definitely working his opponent around the court more now.

After four hours and six minutes, we finally have a winner over on Kia Arena and that means Katie Boulter will be in action shortly.

It's Lorenzo Musetti who comes out on top of the all-Italian encounter, winning 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 against Matteo Arnaldi.

British number one Boulter is up against Canada's Rebecca Marino next and we'll be here to bring you all the drama from that one.

  11. 'Excited to be back' - Paolinipublished at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    Paolini 6-0 6-4 Wei

Here is what women's fourth seed Jasmine Paolini had to say following her straight-set win:

"I feel very happy of course. It is not always easy to play in the first round.

"She [Wei Sijia] was playing unbelievable [in the second set], she was returning so fast.

"I didn't know this girl before, she played really good tennis and I think we will see her soon in the top 100.

"It is great to be back in Australia. Thank you guys for coming. Last year was unexpected for sure, it was an amazing year.

"It is a new year, I'm excited to be back. Until last year I had not won here. The last year gave me so much confidence."

Bad news for Stan Wawrinka fans. The Swiss veteran is out after a gruelling four-set battle with Italy's Lorenzo Sonego.

Wawrinka won the Australian Open back in 2014, but he's down to 156 in the world rankings and he can't make the most of his wildcard to get past the first round.

It's the third successive year that he's lost in the opening round in Melbourne.

Two more match points for Jasmine Paolini... And she won't let this opportunity pass her by!

A very encouraging start indeed for the Italian fourth seed at the Australian Open. She just had far too much quality for her young opponent.

  14. Paolini serving for matchpublished at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    *Paolini 6-0 5-4 Wei

Jasmine Paolini will hope - and expect - to get this done at the next opportunity after dominating for much of the last 70 minutes.

But Wei Sijia connects magnificently with a return on a second serve for 15-15. She won't go away just yet.

  15. De Minaur and Van de Zandschulp holdpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Van de Zandschulp 1-6 2-3 De Minaur*

Both players have just held their service games on Rod Laver Arena.

That was crucial for world number 84 Botic van de Zandschulp, who is forcing Alex de Minaur into a handful of unforced errors now.

  16. Wei saves match point to holdpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    *Paolini 6-0 5-4 Wei

An apology from Wei Sijia, but she's grateful for a bit of luck to extend her stay in the Australian Open.

Facing a first match point, the Chinese debutant catches the net cord with a couple of shots before slicing over a drop shot top reach deuce.

And she gives a big smile to her team after producing an ace to hold and force Jasmine Paolini to serve this one out.

  17. Paolini closing in on victorypublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    Paolini 6-0 5-3 Wei*

A big puff of the cheeks from Jasmine Paolini, who can't believe she just lost that point!

Wei Sijia displays great athleticism as she sprints around to meet a series of heavy groundstrokes, before passing a forehand out of the Italian's reach. What a shot that is.

Wei can't build on that, however, and Paolini now stands one game from a place in the second round.

  18. Wei holds to stay in touchpublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    *Paolini 6-0 4-3 Wei

The scoreboard is heavily against her but Wei Sijia, to her credit, is continuing to play and take everything she can from this first Slam experience.

The world number 117 holds impressively from 30-30 after Jasmine Paolini threatened to steal in again with a forehand winner.

  19. De Minaur holds and breakspublished at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Van de Zandschulp 1-6 1-2 De Minaur*

Maybe I spoke too soon about Van de Zandschulp making the most of his service games - because De Minaur has just broken him again.

The Australian failed to take advantage of two break points but third time seemed to be the charm!

Jasmine Paolini launches a serve down the middle to deny Wei Sijia hope of an immediate response, moving another step closer to victory with a clinical forehand.

The fourth seed is just a couple of games away!
