Ugo Humbert deserves huge credit for his performance.
He was more than a match for the defending champion for the majority of the match and rightly received a very warm ovation from the crowd as he left Centre Court.

"Come on EM-MAAAA!"
Carlos Alcaraz hasn't even started his on-court interview and the locals on Centre Court are already shouting for the home favourite...
Not long to wait, guys.
Reckon Raducanu and Lulu Sun will be walking out about 10 minutes after Alcaraz finishes his chat with Annabel Croft.

Jannik Sinner is just so ruthless on serve as he holds to love for the fourth time.
Alcaraz 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-5 Humbert
This was Carlos Alcaraz towards the end of the first set when he was looking pretty much unstoppable.
Well, at times in the next three Ugo Humbert looked like he might just stop the 21-year-old.
But Alcaraz's best form returned in the nick of time late in the fourth set.
*Sinner 6-2 3-2 Shelton
Jannik Sinner is almost able to conserve energy on his own service games as he rattles through them so quickly and that gives him the opportunity to turn up the pressure when Ben Shelton has the ball in hand.
Shelton gets over the line this time.

I was here yesterday to watch Ben Shelton come through his match with Denis Shapovalov and he had a number of friends sat near me.
Those same friends are here again now but they’re rather subdued at the moment.
Sinner 6-2 3-1 Shelton*

Sinner gets a little sloppy to let Shelton on the board - just the fourth point he has conceded on serve.
The Italian gets another comfortable hold.

Ugo Humbert deserves a lot of credit, he fought from the first point to the last.
It was mighty, mighty close.
I think Carlos Alcaraz will leave the court a relieved man after today.
Alcaraz 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-5 Humbert
Carlos Alcaraz is into the last eight after a real battle against 16th seed Ugo Humbert.
The third seed was on top form to take the first set but was then pushed all the way for the next three by the French number one.
Humbert broke him four games in a row at one point but Alcaraz rallied again and finished the match in style.
The Spaniard's title defence continues.
*Sinner 6-2 2-1 Shelton
And Ben Shelton knows how important it is to hold as he fires an ace to lay down a marker from the outset.
It has to be so disheartening for Shelton to serve at 137mph only to see Jannik Sinner return for a winner. 30-30.
Shelton shrugs it off and finds another ace to hold for the first time since game three of the first set.
Alcaraz 6-3 6-4 1-6 6-5 Humbert*

Even the basics aren't there for Ben Shelton at the moment. He sends a simple forehand long and looks up to his father and coach Bryan for some encouragement.
Jannik Sinner loses clear sight of the ball as he attempts an overhead volley and it's straight into the net. 30-30.
An ace to hold and that's seven games in a row now for Sinner.
Shelton desperately needs to halt this run and with a hold in the next game.

That missed smash is a huge moment in the set - and the match.
Ugo Humbert then makes a misjudgement at break point, leaving a forehand from Carlos Alcaraz that has a huge amount of top spin on it and dips late to clip the line.
The defending champion will serve for a place in the quarter-finals.
