Carlos Alcaraz speaking after the match on whether he watches highlights of himself: "Sometimes when I go to the living room my little brothers are watching. I sit down and watch my highlights and enjoy again. Every time I watch the match and remind myself of those shots, I enjoy it."

On the number one spot: "It is difficult not to think about it. Every time I step on the course I try not to think about it. If I think about it I out pressure on myself. If I step onto the court, I try to enjoy it. I am trying not to think too much about it."

  5. Shuker & Slade into quarter-finalspublished at 20:40 British Summer Time

There have been mixed fortunes so far for Britain's players on the opening day of the wheelchair events.

Lucy Shuker and Dutch partner Jiske Griffoen beat Maylee Phelps and Saki Takamuro 6-2 6-0 to reach the semi-finals of the women's doubles.

And in the quad doubles, Greg Slade, making his US Open debut alongside Australian Jin Woodman, booked a place in the semi-finals with a 6-1 6-7 (6-8) [10-8] win over 2023 Wimbledon finalists Heath Davidson and Robert Shaw.

But two-time former champions Andy Lapthorne and American David Wagner, who were the second seeds, lost 6-3 5-7 [12-10] to South American pair Francisco Cayulef and Gonzalo Enrique, having had three match points in the deciding match tie-break.

Top seeds Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, who are aiming for a sixth US Open men’s wheelchair doubles title together, are currently in action against Americans Charlie Cooper and Conner Stroud

Alcaraz just dominated. He got an early lead and it just snowballed from there. The serve is intact. Not having to face any break points - that is a huge part of his game and a red flag for future opponents.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is that.

Carlos Alcaraz books his spot in the last four with a comprehensive straight-set win against Jiri Lehecka.

The Spaniard was at his brilliant best at points there but also looked like he could go up a gear if he really needed it.

He's through to the semi-finals and does so without dropping a single set.

    Ominous stuff for his rivals.

Carlos Alcaraz is closing in on a 59th win of 2025. That is a considerable figure when you think there's the Asian swing and the European indoor swing to come before the ATP Finals.

  9. Alcaraz breakspublished at 20:31 British Summer Time

Carlos Alcaraz gets the crucial break he was looking for in this third set and, you fear, that might be that for Jiri Lehecka.

The Czech was 30-0 up there, but Alcaraz wins four points in a row to earn the break.

The world number two will now come out to serve for a place in the semi-finals.

    *Lehecka 4-6 2-6 4-4 Alcaraz

It's like Carlos Alcaraz chooses how to beat you sometimes.

The Spaniard's raced through his last two service games, holding to love on both occasions.

He knows he can apply the pressure on Lehecka's serve and the best way of doing so is to get him back on serve at the earliest possible opportunity.

    Credit to Jiri Lehecka.

He's been right up against it, but not once has he allowed his head to drop.

After saving the break point, the Czech then comes out on top of a long rally that leaves Carlos Alcaraz rooted at the net.

Only one hour and 40 minutes on the clock. It's potentially a very swift afternoon's work in a Grand Slam quarter-final for Carlos Alcaraz if he can break through just one more time here against Jiri Lehecka.

The uncomfortable feeling for Lehecka is that he has been behind in every set.

For my money, that's the first game of this entire match that Carlos Alcaraz has lost his focus.

The Spaniard could have sewn up the match there at 15-30 up.

But a couple of loose shots - going long with a lob and wide with a forehand - gives Jiri Lehecka the hold.

  17. 'Lehecka is frustrated too often'published at 20:11 British Summer Time

    *Lehecka 4-6 2-5 2-2 Alcaraz

    Mark Woodforde

It feels like Lehecka is frustrated too often. We are seeing him trying to overpower and over-hit Alcaraz in these baseline rallies.

    *Lehecka 4-6 2-6 2-2 Alcaraz

Jiri Lehecka is really mixing it up now. He's got nothing to lose.

He's picked up two or three wildly different positions on the Alcaraz serve there, in an attempt to catch the Spaniard off-guard.

But no such luck, the world number two holds to 15 to keep us on serve in this third set.

The good news for Lehecka is that this is the first time in the match that he's been level at this stage in a set.

    Well done, Jiri Lehecka.

The Czech, down again on his serve, throws caution to the wind and twice comes to the net to force the issue.

He executes a stunning backhand smash on the first, and produces a brilliant volley on the second.

  20. Alcaraz holdspublished at 20:03 British Summer Time

    *Lehecka 4-6 2-5 1-1 Alcaraz

Sometimes Carlos Alcaraz takes your breath away.

At 30-15, the Spaniard slides to meet a forehand and clips an astonishing drop shot return that Jiri Lehecka doesn't even attempt to retrieve.

How do you even think of doing that?

It's just ludicrous stuff. There is magic in those hands.
