Derry triathlete Aileen Reid came in 12th in the fourth round of the World Triathlon series in Madrid on Saturday.

Reid finished in a time of 2:07.07 in a race won by Great Britain's Non Standford with Anne Haug second and Jodie Stimpson in third.

Reid, who was second in last year's Madrid race, has moved up one place to eighth in the 2013 rankings.

The local woman finished 12th, 17th and eighth in the opening three rounds of the series this year.

Reid trained in Australia at the start of this year under new coach Darren Smith.

Her performances in the first two events of the year were hampered by a knee injury.
