Runner Gareth Warburton has became the fifth Welsh athlete to hit the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games 'A' standard.

The London 2012 Olympian finished second behind Russia's Yuriy Borzakovskiy in the 800m A race at an international meeting in Velenje in Slovenia on Tuesday.

Warburton's time of 1.46.79 was his quickest since July 2012.

It was comfortably within Welsh Athletics' 'A' standard of 1.47.00 for the Games.

The 30-year-old joins Rhys Williams (400m hurdles), Brett Morse (discus), Carys Parry (hammer) and Sally Peake (pole vault) as the Welsh athletes to have achieved the qualifying standard.
