Lee Selby: World title shot 'within touching distance'

Welsh featherweight Lee Selby says he is only two wins away from possibly achieving his childhood dream of a world title shot.

Selby has a WBC International featherweight title eliminator with Mexican Romulo Koasicha on Saturday in Cardiff.

The 27-year-old believes he is in ideal shape after training in California.

"Maybe one more win after this I'll secure myself a world title fight," he said.

"That's what I've been in the game for. I've been dreaming since I was a young boy and it's almost within touching distance.

"Everything's gone on track through my career.

"I started boxing on the small hall shows. I won the area title, the Welsh title then the Celtic, British, Commonwealth, WBC International and European title.

"Now I'm here in an eliminator."

The Barry boxer hopes success on Saturday will lead to a world title challenge at featherweight - and is already dreaming of a clash with former WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire.

Filipino fighter Donaire faces Simpiwe Vetyeka in Macao in China on 31 May for the WBA Super World featherweight title.

Selby's promoter Eddie Hearn thinks the Welshman is an emerging superstar in the sport.

Hearn added that WBC International, British and Commonwealth champion Selby is top-10 ranked with most of the sport's governing bodies, so has plenty of options.

Former World light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly makes his cruiserweight debut on the same bill at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.

Cleverly returns to the ring for the first time since losing his WBO light-heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev in August 2013 and faces Shawn Corbin.
