Welsh Netball has announced head coach Melissa Hyndman has been sacked just weeks before the Commonwealth Games following a disciplinary investigation.

Hyndman, who has declined to comment, had been in charge of Wales and the Celtic Dragons club side since 2010.

She was missing from the last Dragons game of the season, an absence put down to personal reasons at the time.

Assistant Laura Williams has been put in charge for the Commonwealth Games, which start in July.

Williams led Wales at the recent Netball Europe Championships in which they qualified for the 2015 World Cup in Sydney.

"Following a robust and rigorous internal disciplinary procedure, high performance coach Melissa Hyndman has been dismissed from her role with immediate effect," Welsh Netball said in a statement.

"The process follows a number of allegations being made, and in line with Welsh Netball's disciplinary procedures, the action to remove her from the role was taken on Sunday 8 June, 2014," the statement added.

Welsh Netball added it would make no further comment on the matter and Hyndman declined to comment when contacted by BBC Wales Sport.

New Zealand-born Hyndman was appointed Wales' first full-time coach in 2010 and led the team to an unprecedented ninth place at the 2011 World Netball Championships.

Under Hyndman, Wales won gold at the 2013 Europe Open Netball Championships and reached their highest world ranking of eighth.

Having missed out on the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Wales qualified for the 2014 Games in Glasgow.

Hyndman also led the Celtic Dragons to last year's Superleague final, where they lost 62-56 to Team Bath.
