Elise Christie won 500m gold at the opening World Cup event of the series
British speed skater Elise Christie broke the 500m world record at the second World Cup event of the season in Salt Lake City.
The 26-year-old clocked 42.335 seconds - beating Fan Kexin's 42.504 - in her quarter-final, but then fell in the closing stages of the final.
The Scot took 500m gold in the opening event of World Cup series in Calgary.
The Livingston-born skater won a silver medal and three bronzes at this year's World Championships in March.
She had previously competed at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.
