Inverness Caledonian Thistle face the play-offs despite beating Morton

Duncan Ferguson's Inverness Caledonian Thistle will have to battle through the play-offs to save their Scottish Championship status despite a final victory over 10-man Morton.

The Highlanders needed to better Queen's Park's result to leapfrog the Glasgow side into eighth place, but Callum Davidson's men defeated Airdrieonians to stay up.

That meant goals from Morgan Boyes, Cameron Harper, and Sean McAllister were in aid of a lost cause.

Instead, Caley Thistle will have to continue their form when they face Montrose, who will finish fourth in League 1, in the first leg of their play-off semi-final at Links Park on Tuesday.

The winner of that tie will face either Hamilton Academical or Alloa Athletic for a place in the second tier next season.

Morton, who levelled before the break through Kirk Broadfoot before Robbie Muirhead was sent off at 2-1 for two quickfire bookings, end the season in fifth.
