An "unexpected fault" with a safety switch has led to the closure of a swimming pool at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre in Guernsey.

Sam Herridge, head of recreation services, said the switch played a "vital role in maintaining essential systems" such as the regulation of chlorine levels, which "are critical to ensuring a safe swimming environment".

She said the pool shut on Friday afternoon, adding "we cannot reopen until we are confident it is safe to do so".

Ms Herridge said the leisure centre team was "working urgently with specialist contractors" to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and apologised to anyone impacted by the closure.

She said the issue was discovered while chlorine levels in the pool were normal, adding the safety of all swimmers was the "absolute priority."
