A bus stop road marking on Ravenswood Avenue was only partially repainted over following utility works

A bus stop road marking was only partially repainted because the company responsible was not required to fully repaint, the local roads authority said.

Work was recently carried out on Ravenswood Avenue in Ipswich by utility company E-Smart on behalf of BP Pulse, which meant part of the road needed to be resurfaced.

However only the section of road that was worked on was repainted over, meaning only parts of the marking are now clearly visible.

Suffolk County Council said the utility company was only obliged to repaint the section it had worked on, but companies were encouraged to make further improvements.

"Utility companies are only required to reinstate the sections of road markings that are directly affected by their works," the council said, as first reported by the Ipswich Star, external.

"Suffolk Highways do not have the authority to require them to replace markings beyond the areas they have worked on.

"However, we encourage utility companies to make wider improvements if needed after their works have been completed, including replacing whole road markings."

E-Smart has been approached for comment.
