Three to be sentenced after teenager stabbed

Three people will be sentenced for their involvement in a "horrific attack" that left a a teenage boy in a critical condition after he was stabbed multiple times in a busy town centre.

Police said the 17-year-old was seriously injured at the junction of Abington Street and Fish Street at about 17:10 BST on Monday 19 May.

Hamza Zaki Sharif, 23, previously of Simons Walk, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday. Two 17-year-olds from the town admitted grievous bodily harm at the same court on 3 September.

Det Con Georgia Sampson, lead investigator, said the victim was "so lucky to still be here", describing it as an "absolutely horrific attack".

All three will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on 5 December.

Police said when it arrived at the incident it found a boy in a critical condition being worked on by members of the public and ambulance crews.

"He had been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and the offenders had fled the scene," the force said.

Det Con Sampson said: "This was an absolutely horrific attack in what is probably the most central and busiest street in Northampton, and the victim is so lucky to still be here."

She said he continued to recover from the attack and praised those who came forward to help, as their actions "undoubtedly saved his life".

Det Insp Tony Kennedy added: "I hope this case sends a strong message that we will never tolerate this type of behaviour and will work tirelessly to bring the offenders to justice.

"The response to this incident from the whole force was exemplary - from our initial response which led to the quick arrest of three armed males, to the dedication and determination of DC Sampson, who worked a 24-hour shift to secure charges against them," he said.
