A man has been jailed after he was found in possession of indecent images of children as young as three years old.

Adrian Augustyniak, 25, from York, was arrested after sending "disgusting" messages via an online app to what he thought was a 12-year-old girl, but which was actually a fake profile, North Yorkshire Police said.

After his arrest, a number of electronic devices were seized at his home which were found to contain indecent images and videos of children, as well as a so-called "paedophile manual" document, according to officers.

In September, Augustyniak pleaded guilty to a number of child sex offences and at York Crown Court on Friday he was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment.

He will also be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and has been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.

'Clear message'

Augustyniak was charged with possessing prohibited images of children, possessing a paedophile manual, making indecent photographs of children, attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity and publishing obscene articles.

Following his sentencing, Det Con Melanie Gladwell, from North Yorkshire Police, described Augustyniak's online activities as "disturbing".

"He had no regard for the welfare of children – his sole concern was his own sexual gratification," she said.

"This case should send a clear message we will track down anyone involved in downloading indecent images of children or attempting to engage children in sexual communication online."
