Somerset in pictures: Autumn arrives in the county
- Published
September has arrived and brought some grey, gloomy days.
Although the weather has not been the best, our weekly round-up of images from across the county has seen some special guests, inspiring people and animal news.
Up in the clouds: Heavy rain fell over the Somerset Levels on Friday night. Although the downpour paused on Saturday morning, clouds and mist lingered in the air. Despite the chill, some people took an early morning walk up Glastonbury Tor - maybe in a bid to take in some views.
A royal visit: Queen Camilla met staff and patients at the new Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital in Bath on Tuesday. In a speech, the Queen said the new facility has a "very welcoming atmosphere".
Going for gold: Dimitri Coutya, who trains at the University of Bath, won a gold medal in the Paralympics 2024 wheelchair fencing on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Team GB athlete secured a bronze medal at the Tokyo games in 2021.
Sunday funday: Whirligig Festival returned to Weston-super-Mare this weekend. Crowds descended on the Italian Gardens to watch some of the acts at the international festival of circus and outdoor acts.
A superhero in the making: Seven-year-old Brodie, from Bridgwater, is fundraising for an Open Bionics Hero Arm which comes in Marvel designs for children - he is hoping for an Iron Man arm, to match his favourite character. Brodie was born with one hand and a "lucky fin", which is what he calls his small hand.
A remarkable achievement: Bath City Farm announced that it reached its £40,000 fundraising goal. As a result, it can remain free to visitors. The facility in Whiteway draws in more than 50,000 visitors a year, including vulnerable adults, children and people with additional needs.
Taking flight: A barn owl was spotted flying over Avalon Marshes. How lovely!
